RE: Let's Talk about National Service
Hi, would like to seek some advice from the experienced parents here on your son’s national service. Typically, when will you receive notice about your son’s enlistment date? I have a son in JC2 now and wondering when will he know his enlistment date? Also, for JC students, typically which month would he get enlisted - January, February? Thanks in advance!

RE: Travel: United Kingdom - London
Hi Lexis
I am also thinking of going to London next June. May I know how did you manage to get tickets for the Harry Potter Play? I think my kids would love going to this play. I tried their official website but it is sold out for all days in June. Thanks. -
RE: NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)
Would like to seek some advice here. My DS is in year 4 of NUSH this year and considering taking up honours for some subjects next year. He is interested to take up honours mainly because of his intense interest in these subjects. Of course, I understand that he has to pass the eligibility criteria for those subjects before he can be considered for honours. But I wonder what is the advantages of taking honours on the practical side? Is honours considered like a H3 type of subject if we equate it to A levels? And what are the advantages for an honours student when applying to universities? Would really appreciate some advice from some experienced parents or students here. Thanks!

RE: 2011 PSLE Discussions and Strategy
Happy New Year! My DS is also taking PSLE this year...so stressful. Would any parents be able to tell me roughly when would their PSLE papers be? I may have a work trip coming up in Oct, but is afraid that it may clash with his PSLE...after all, I promised him that I would be around to \"support\" him
Thanks in advance! -
RE: 2011 PSLE Discussions and Strategy
I need some help in planning a good time table for my DS, who’s also sitting for his PSLE in 2011. I always draw up a time table at the beginning of the year…but some time down the calendar, something would disrupt the calendar…and the calendar goes down the drain. Also, in P6, I’m sure there would be loads of homework given by the school. Add in all the supp classes and occasional learning journeys/competitions etc, the poor kid does not have much time. How to structure a time table like this? My DS’s form teacher just reminded us parents that we shouldn’t be giving them extra work, only need them to finish off their school home work and they will be well prepared. I wonder if this is true?..

RE: Teaching Chinese at Home
Thanks so much, Tamarind. I know that I can always count on you for advice and guidance
Thanks for your advice - as always, I find it tremendously useful. If you remember, I've also sought advice here about two months ago and got lots of useful tips on how I can improve my son's chinese. I've started getting my DS to read chinese articles and then write down words that he's not familiar with. We didn't have time to do it every night, but managed to complete like 3 articles per week - which I thought was no mean feat already, since he doesn't like chinese
The only thing I couldn't really get him to do is to constantly converse with me in chinese (either I forgot or I felt that I've nagged incessantly already and gave up
). Also couldn't get him to write frequently - to him, writing in chinese is such a chore!
I bought the whole series of 马小跳 already. It's been two months and he has not even finish one book yet...sigh....
I know that I'm not persistent enough, and I should be more disciplined in enforcing such practices....but sometimes I'm so tired, and he feels even more tired from his school's supplementary classes and loads of homework. Sigh...a struggle
Will try again....will not give up
