    • RE: Extra Marital Affair

Well, I just come across this tread which I would like to share as a man. I do feel sad for those who have their husband EMA. I am trying to share with you about men and hope to share with you on what I learn about relationship.

In terms of biological, men are make to be more sexual desire than women. If the world have only one man and ten women left on earth. The survival of mankind would be able to last as a man can make ten women to have more babies. But if there is only one woman but there are ten men, the survival rate for mankind would be very dangerous. Therefore, the biological of human being are made in this way. This is just talking about only biological. I do not say that I would agree to this kind of behaviour.

In terms of ethics, a man should be faithful to his wife as this is constitute in the marriage.

Before I was married, I was afraid of marriage. I saw the divorce rate is higher and higher. I do not want to be one of the number. Therefore, I do think about marriage as there is no security in marriage. I would cohabit if I have a partner.

Luckily, I had talked to a pastor and he told me that the difference between cohabit and marriage is responsibility. If I love someone, wouldn’t I should be responsible for the one that I love? From then, I do not think about cohabit.

From research, a lot of them had proved that those who cohabit have a higher rate of divorce than those who do not cohabit.

So I asked myself what makes a marriage long lasting. I had found out there are 3 essential things that would make a marriage last but it would takes two to clap.

First, is both the couple must have high level of commitment to the marriage. I noticed that nowadays many people have very low commitment towards marriage. Anything wrong, divorce would come to mind. This mentalility is very bad which also resulted higher divorce rate. Many people think that divorce could solve the problem but I would said that it would solve partial problems. If the couple do not have any children, then it would only affect the couple but those with children, the children would be hurt the most.

If the commitment is high for the couple, any problems could be solve Together. Yes, to solve the problems TOGETHER.

Even with the problem of EMA, couple can sit down and solve the problem together. What went wrong that cause EMA? Do you think men would like to flirt and have EMA if his wife treats him very well? Even though a man has higher sexual desire but if his wife knows how to respect him and treat him well, he will not want to have EMA. I believe some women would disagree with me and said that didn’t I treat him well? I cook, wash and take care of the house for him yet he dare to said that I do not treat him well? I believe wife would love to hear nice thing from husband like " I love you", " you are so beautiful" and etc even though husband may have work very hard to bring bread home. So men also need to hear nice thing from wife.

Second, is the communication. Problems arises due to poor communication. Men and women are really different and they see and hear things differently. I give a few simple examples. Wife told husband to find something but husband always could not find the thing. Men have better direction than women. Men and women are made differently therefore there are many different opinions between each other. It is the communication that set things right. Do not keep any dissatisfactory in the heart but do voice out tactfully and gently. If you are feeling very angry about something, please cool down first before raising the problems out. Shouting and quarrel do not solve problems but instead give more problems. Therefore, communication is very important in marriage but it is also important in all kinds of relationship.

Third is Trust. If there is no trust in any relationship, it is difficult to maintain. I really cannot imagine if a marriage do not have any trust in it. If husband buys a present for wife, wife might think that their husband might have done something wrong therefore buy something for her. This kind of distrust is really not healthy for marriage. I do not mean to have 100% of trust but at least the trust level should be there is no doubt between the couple.

The above 3 essential elements are what I think would help people in their marriage. I would like to share another bad mentality of "not my fault". When a problem arises, do not pinpoint whose fault but focus on how to solve the problem.

Well, I admit that men are weaker sex when comes to sexual so instead of blaming men, why not help the men? No matter whose problem, it is the couple’s problem therefore both should help to support and help each other instead of pinpointing whose fault. Forgiving also help in a relationship. Learn to forgive and forget whatever fault the other party had done.

Hope that those wives facing EMA learn to forgive and forget. I know it is easier to said than done but forgiving would be more helpful to you than the other party. Well, that is all I have to said.

Ya, I wish to know how does AGPS fare in PSLE as my dd is going for P1 in 2012.

I went for the orientation recently and notice the students were very polite. It gives a very good impression. I choose the school as it does not focus just on academic only.

ixMuffin: I would like to hear more from you about AGPS as you are a student who is going to graduate. How does the PSLE fare for AGPS?

    • RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos

      Hi all,

      Just to share.

Yesterday, I visited PIANOMASTER and I saw a new model for Petrof which is P118. It is smaller model and the price is cheaper than Yamaha U1. The sound of P118 is good! If this model is there during my selection, I might have bought that model.

P125 is still better though but the different in prices is quite a sum which I consider that P118 is worth buying.

That’s all I want to share.

    • RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos

When I first went to see piano, I know nothing about piano. I just went in to listen what the salesman can teach me about piano. After going through a few shops, I do learn something but I cannot justify if they are speaking the truth. So I went online to check more infor.

Buying expensive item cannot be too impulse. I was also feeling impulse when I am choosing a piano. When my dd was learning at Cristofori, I was introduced to a piano that cost about $5000 plus and I knew nothing about piano. I was thinking about buying it as it was around my initial budget. Luckily, I hold back my impulse and went around to see more piano. As I see more pianos, I was upping my budget till $16000 piano. I know I was getting more impulse of buying a expensive piano which is not necessary so I hold back.

Why I said that it is better to trust your own? Do you think you can trust those salesman? They are there to promote their products so definitely they will said the best things about their products and hide those bad things about their products. So I do not trust their words.

I am not a pianist so I do not know what sound that I like. When I went around to hear more piano I was educated by those dealers to identify what kind of piano should I choose. Each dealers will said that their pianos are better. At a time, I was confused too. So I went back again to some dealers that I feel comfortable and listen to their pianos again. It is alright to let them know what pianos you had seen, listen to what will they said about their competitors. In this way, you also learn what to look out for the other piano. This is one way, you can learn about pianos. Ha…!

There is no time frame of buying a piano. Most important is that you know what you are buying and you like it. If you are afraid, then you can read more before you go to shop for piano.

For me, I am very kiasu so I read a lot to understand before commit to buy as this is my first time buying a piano and I know nothing about it at that time.

      Hi Ammonite,

I'm not a pianoguru but try to answer your questions.

      1. How long can a Hailun last a piano learner? Up to grade 5? Read some good reviews on the sound, but not much on its lifespan.
Ans: I believe no one can answer you as this is very subjective.

      2. What is the difference between a Yamaha sound and a Kawai? Kawai is less bright?
Ans: Most people said that Kawai is more mellow. Some also said that the Kawai upright sounded more muffle instead of mellow. Most important is you like the sound personally. It is very subjective that is why that it is good to listen to more pianos before you decide. Even for same brand and model, it can sound differently by a bit.

      3. Is Piano master THE place for good second hands? I am terrible at bargaining, I just want a place that offers a fair price, pay and go home.
Ans: There is no saying that there is one good place to buy piano. It depends on the chemistry between you and the seller. You might like the piano but you might not trust the seller. Therefore, I would not say that PianoMaster is the best place. Just based on your guts feeling and feel if the seller is sincere and trustworthy. If you can't trust your own judgement then who can you trust. 🙂

I was infected by the beautiful sound of Sauter. Yes, I’ve heard about things like either you will like it or hate it. Mr Alvin is a very nice guy and he will patiently teach you how to choose a piano. He taught me for 4 hrs on that! If I had the money, I will buy Sauter as firstly it is a very good piano and secondly Alvin is one that I trust so I know he will solve my problems.

Please call Alvin if you want to see Sauter and his number is 9452 8618 to make a appointment with him. He might not be there all the time. My next target will be Sauter if I have the money in future.

Intermezzo: you are most welcome! It is good to share around good infor. I also learn from others too!

      Hi Intermezzo,

      You are most welcome!

PianoMaster sells new piano for Petrof, Hailun, ‘Grotrain’ (don’t know the exact spelling) and another brand which I can’t remember but they do sell second hand for Yamaha and Kawai. Why I also trust PianoMaster is because they started out as repair piano shop so I know they can repair my piano without any problem. Moreover, Petrof has 10 years waranty so it also give me a peace of mind too! They have a 50% back back policy within the first 5 years.

If you can find a second hand Petrof then you are very lucky as it is difficult to find one in the market. That is why I have the thought of why there are so many Yamaha or Kawai piano in the second hand market. Some people answer me that it is because more people are buying the Japanese piano. I really don’t know the true answer.

I like Schimmel tone which is bright but clear and clean treble but it cost about $16000 plus. For Hoffman, you should buy tradition series and not vision series. Vision series piano has parts from China while tradition series do not. Although the price difference is around $4000 but for me I would still prefer piano that do not have parts from China as I am spending a lot for a piano yet I get parts from China. To me, it is illogical. As for Yamaha YUS 5, I’m not very sure.

I was told that no matter which piano you bought, in Singapore, the piano life span is around 20 years due to the humidity in Singapore. So whether it’s European or Japanese piano, it will be the same. European piano’s soundboard had been treated for tropical climate so there is no problem in buying European piano.

I had read some infor on dehumidifier system for piano to protect the piano from humid weather. I bought a hygrometer to measure my room humidity level then I measure the level inside the piano. Currently, I have a 25watts heater which I on it for 24 hrs and put a dehumidifier silicon like Hippo which can be bought from NTUC. I do not have a air-con as my wife does not like it. Currently, I measure the humidity inside my piano is around 55-60% RH with a full piano cover. Almost there for correct humidity level. The best level for piano is within 45-50% RH. I think a full piano covet might helps to reduce humidity by a bit. This is just my thought.

I hope that I had shared with you my thoughts that might answer your questions. Please do visit the websites that I had shared as the infor is very good. Do check out more pianos and you will have an answer very naturally. Buy a piano which you think you like most as this piano will be with you for quite sometimes. It will be a part of your family so you must like the piano that you buy. You will know what I mean after you had choose a piano.

Hope you will find one you will like!

    • RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos

      Hi parents and readers,

The reason for writing my experience on shopping for a piano for my dd is just plain sharing. I enjoy sharing with others on what I had learned.

My sharing described how I started from Yamaha to Kawai and then to European piano. I did mention that it is my own opinion.

I want to stress that I am not promoting for any brand of the piano but just sharing how I end up buying the piano that I am having now. Preferences are very subjective so I will never ask people to buy the piano that I had bought.

I had done my own research before buying and I am confident that the shortlisted of European piano that I had shared earlier are value for money that cost around $13000 to $14000. There are better pianos like Schimmel, Seiler or Wilh. Steinburg IQ24 or etc but these are more expensive pianos which I do not want to spend for my dd as she is only a beginner and those piano that I had selected can last her till diploma level. I would like to clarify that even Yamaha U1 is good enough to last till diploma level. Having a better sound piano from the start is good to train the hearing which is useful when it comes to higher grade level which I learn from some teachers’ comments.

Of course, budget is a concern too. I started with a $5000 budget to buy a piano and found that I could not buy a new and good piano like Yamaha U1. So I up my budget to around $8000 and found Kawai K5 which I like it too. I almost thought of buying then I went to see more pianos before I decide it. Then I came to European piano which I found that I like the sound more than the Japanese piano. This is just my preference. I cannot imagine having my dd to play the piano which the sound that I do not like it.

Let me share with you something which I personally had seen it. I saw the parts inside a Yamaha and Hailun piano. Even though Hailun is made in China but I am surprise that the part are quite good. I can say that it is better than Yamaha U1 for some parts. Go and judge for yourself and do not take my words for it.

Here are the websites that I had learned about piano which I hope that it will help you to understand them.

A forum that discuss about piano.

It is good to see more pianos before deciding which pianos to buy. Personally, I had chosen Petrof P125 which most people who knows about pianos know that it is a good piano although it is not the best. As I had mentioned, it is my preference but anyone who is interested to buy Petrof can go to PianoMaster to see and they have Hailun (China made) which is also has a nice sound and cheap.

I hope that my sharing helps some parents or piano buyer to have some useful infor to do their research on their shopping for piano. Enjoy your shopping for piano!
