RE: [PSLE MT] PSLE less weightage in Chinese / Mother Tongue
below is from a chinese forum:
from trombone to Double-Bass
My son joined Band and was assigned to play trombone last year when he was in secondary 1. After a whole year’s training, he found he was not interested in trombone.Instead of it, he likes to play violin very much and learn it by himself. This year, he asked to change CCA from Band to String ensemble but was rejected by the teacher in-charge of Band. Then he asked to play double bass instead of trambone in the Band. His reason is to play double- bass will help him to learn violin. His goal is to join String Ensemble in JC! I do not know weather this is a good choice. Any comments?

RE: Bi-lingualism at school a mistake ?
something struck my mind suddenly...
only if gahment were to allow China people to come here to work as domestic helpers.... wow! many kids Chinese WILL improve by leaps and bounds!
I certainly disgree. Educating children is parents'responsibility, why push it to the maid and always rely on the tuitor?Even we can not teach children Chinese ourselves, we should do our best to create a good environment for their leaning, just like what Kiasimom did. -
We must also read interesting Chinese story books to them, like short stories taken from the 4 great classical novels, especially 西游记, as well as 封神榜, 山海经, etc, and true stories from the history of China. These are very fascinating to kids, much better than Disney cartoons
I totally agree with this. Children like 西游记very much, just as they like Harry Potter! They just need you (teachers or parents) to introduce these magical stories to them.
