I'm considering PPS after reading up on their achievements and MOE awards received. Strange why the take up rate is so low for this school considering how well they have done. Anyone knows why? And any idea between PPS and Xinmin, which is better?

For past years, phase 2C has been overscribed ever since they have been awarded so many achievements by MOE.
I could not find out more about PPS too beforehand and did not bother with any volunteer work. Then I became one of the parents who have to go through the heart stopping balloting process last year. 😂

Sounds nerve-racking. I saw from 2017 tur that only PR less than 1km needed to ballot in phase 2C. How was it last year? Did SC had to ballot? Trying to get a gauge for SG50 babies. Had my sight set on Holy Innocent initially for Hougang area but now kind of swaying towards PPS.
Last year was the registration for dragon year babies and the first year MOE implemented the electronic balloting process centralized at MOE:
All SC staying within 1KM had to ballot so all PR and SC >1KM no chance at all. Imagine my horrors when on the last day of the P2C the application count went overdrive - Cannot sleep well at all.
I had initially set my sight on HI (this needs balloting too) but the schools is more academic driven and i do not want to stress my son (and myself) out. So far still very pleased with PPS , its caring teachers and the activities they had.

      Hi,

Any parent can share about the culture in PPS? Is this more academic driven?

      Thank you in advance!
      Hi Nidellia,

In my personal opinion based on the past 5.5 months my p1 son went through , the schools seems to be quite well balanced. Homework aside, they seems to have a number of recess time activity/carnival waiting for them - with games to learn about mother tongues, International flag or culture etc. They get to make crafts or win prizes too. I'm still very pleased with the school thus far. Hope this helps.

Congrats! The sch would want u to give a reply on the spot right? Else they can quickly give the slot to the next in line. Previously did u registered for that sch but was balloted out?
Yes tinywings, the school called and asked if i can make it down for the admission within the next two days so of course I said 'immediately fly down\" 😂

And yes, my son was being balloted out from the school during Phase 2C. Really thankful for the 2nd chance.

      Dear All,

I got the long waited call from my wait listed school yesterday!! Some one withdrew and my son was offered the spot.

I was literally screaming in the office yesterday when i received the call.

Took urgent leave to make a mad dash between two schools to apply and withdraw.

I guess NOV is the month of orientation and perhaps musical chair has started!

No harm calling the school to check up every week to ask if there's any withdrawal.

I did ask before what is the basis for selecting who to give the available slot to, and the school told me home-school distance, but maybe it varies across school...

      Good luck everyone!!

IIRC, your case was kinda 'suay'. The school was never or rarely oversubscribed < 2km but it 'boom' due to the dragon year intake, resulting in a number of <1km being displaced.

Yes floppy, your memory is damn good!!!! hahahaha. a total of 39 balloters was displaced. I was the suay one then.
May I ask is it common to follow up calls to school after submitting waiting list and after phase 2C?

      Hi sillygal_1608,

i guess there's no hard and fast rule and its up to the individual on whether you wish to call the school periodically to check. for me, l I tried calling up before i apply for 2CS (with a glimmer of hope) and got disappointed.

I will try calling again perhaps in NOV with another glimmer of hope.

I called up the sch today 26 Sept that we r on waitlist, the admin said still nobody withdraw.
I called up my choice school\\ today after receiving an email from the new school on pre-orientation admin exercise, also no one withdraw as of today. 😢

Hi there is no guarantee we will get a place in the school student care so we had registered for one directly under our block…That’s why we need the school bus.
