• RE: COP 2018

(1)Does anyone know if the procedure for appeal is tedious?

(2) how soon will we know if the appeal is successful?
(3) should we get the books and uniform for the school that we are posted to or wait for the result of appeal?
(4) how do schools select candidates who appeal to the school, base on aggregate score or reason of appeal?

Thanks in advance!

If they give conditions like male and female parts matured at different timings, insect with two flower pollination will be correct.
But conditions said male and female part bloomed same time and stay live 7 days. But one part die 2 days earlier than other. So We no need to think about later part. It means 7 days Anther and stigma stay live for pollination. One (same)flower insect pollination will be correct answer.

Did the conditions say male and female part bloomed same time and stay alive for 7 days?

Anyone can help verify?

My daughter said that she recalled that the question did not state that. Instead, the question only stated that the pistil opened up for 2 days before dying, and then the stamen opened up afterwards and died after a while. Since both the pistil and the stamen did not open at the same time, the anther could not transfer its pollen grains to the stigma, so reproduction cannot occur within that one flower.
Her answer was 1 insect 2 Flowers. :nailbite:

hi lee_yl, my DS said the same thing about the question. His answer is also by insect & 2 flowers.
This is what I read from the question too. 😓

I think the question did mention something like the pistil will fall off first followed by the stamen, meaning that they mature at different timing, that will prevent self pollination. I may be wrong.

What is the answer for the question on the magnet 'ding' and 'dong'?

According to my DS, there are 3 parts to this question.
a) When the circuit is closed, the coiled rod will be magnetised and attract the iron rod which will move and hit the bell, making Ding sound.
b) 2 ways to make Ding sound louder: (1) increase the number of coils (2) increase the number of cells.
3) Dong sound is made when the iron rod moves away from the bell and hit the plate which is on an opposite side. How to make Dong sound louder without changing iron rod or plate: The answer has to do with the spring attached to the iron rod. DS's answer is to use a shorter spring. Not sure if correct.

I’m not sure if part (c) is to use longer or shorter spring or whether to mover the plate further or nearer. Anyone knows
Yea. Overall paper need some thinking processing. Adaptation qn was challenging. MCQ was quite ok. There was one mcq about pollination. Something about what Z is being pollinated by...anyone have any idea?

I think I remembered that question now. My answer is pollinated by insects , two flowers

Yes. My DD also put the same answer. She say she don’t know what the qn wanted. Almost entire class people all have choices 1,2,3,4 as the answer. Confused.
My reasoning is that the flower has strong smell thus attract insects. Some flowers adapt themselves to avoid self pollination by having pistil and stamen maturing at different time, which is so for this question, therefore is pollinated by two flowers . Not sure if I’m correct

There was one question that my girl and her friend got different answers. The MCQ question was about three solids X, Y, Z.

Two statements were given:
A. The material making solids X and Y is the same
B. The materials making Y and Z were different

Which of the statement(s) could be concluded from the above experiment?

1). Both A and B
2). B only
3). A only
4). Neither A nor B
Is A the mass of X and Y not the material. If I remember the question correctly. I may be wrong.

What about the ripe and unripe banana question in section B?

i do not remember the mcq question but i put one ripe banana and one unripe banana for the experimental setup and one unripe banana for the control setup

That is my answer too
