I guess studying accounting does not necessarily translate to working in an accounting role/firm? There are alot of different roles which suits an accountancy graduate. The financial skills will be useful in a bank, in a company, in various financial institutions or even in the civil service. Taken from that macro perspective, then yes, there will be long term demand for accountancy graduates.

The professionals still end up making more money than the other degree specializations…

Where are you studying Medicine?

Do you have any advice for anyone wishing to study in the U.K.? What's the estimated cost? What are the minimum grades?

Studying Medicine in the UK is really expensive, but the cost will also vary depending on which city/university you choose to study in. You would also have to do various entrance exams which will be viewed along with your A level grades, I would say you would need aroudn 400-500k SGD for the entire course.

Both the IB and the A levels have their own merits and areas to improve upon. Ultimately, each student learns very differently and some students are more suitable for IB while others are more suitable for A levels. The A levels is highly structured and goes in depth to various selected topics while the IB has much more autonomy for the students to direct their own learning and covers a much wider area than the A levels.


In terms of University Admissions, I think both the IB and the A levels are viewed favorably with most universities (both in Singapore and overseas) so… I guess let your child chose what he/she prefers and trust that he would know himself well enough to pick the right course which is more suitable for himself.

The cost of living / rental in London is significantly higher than in the other cities, so if you send your son to some of the other cities to read medicine, it would bring down your cost by quite abit over the number of years! Of course, after Brexit, alot of things might change. Good luck!
