• RE: 2018 P1 registration exercise for 2019 intake

      Katnisslee:
On MOE website, ACS (Junior) had just 39 registration at end of Day 1 Phase 1. But, at end of Day 2, there was a jump to 80!

I thought most Phase 1 applicants would have much time to prepare for registration so most would have done it on the first day.
The school will usually give out the Phase 1 forms earlier to the boys whose brothers will be registering for phase 1, and have the forms collected before Jun holidays.

On Phase 1 registration days, school admin will submit the forms online to MOE for registration. Guess ACSJ admin did the online submission over 2 days.
Any idea about Anglican church membership for St Margaret's? Is there a time-frame for becoming a member before P1 registration?

Same process - Parents must be baptised and be a confirmed member to be eligible for P2B. Whole process takes about a year considering time required to register and attend baptism and confirmation classes. The parent need the pastor recommendation for the P2B eligibility after the pastor observation on how faithful the parent. Observation will take a few months.

In order to be eligible as a member of the church, must you have to be a tithing member?
Giving/tithing is part of church teachings, at least it is not enforced in my church but we give/tithe out of conviction. But I know the pastor assessment form for P2B does have a section on \"giving\".

I heard that the Methodist churches will also ask the child himself/herself to be baptized. So the preschooler will have to make a big decision. Whether mature enough or not at that age is questionable. Not sure whether this is a factor in whether the pastor issues the 2B letter. Does anyone know?

In the Methodist Church, at least one of the parents must be a confirmed member before the infant or child can be baptised. The parents must also sit through a baptism prep class before the infant or children can be baptised.

If the parents are already members I guess they wouldn't mind their children being baptised. Anyway the children have to attend the actual baptism and confirmation classes after they turned 16 to be members.
Dear All, I'm planning to register our son to ACS Primary. We are planning to join Methodist Church community (since we are both Christian anyway), to qualify ourselves to phase 2B.

Can we check if we have to go to specific Methodist church in Singapore, or any Methodist church will do?
thanks in advance for the replies šŸ™‚

Any Methodist church will do. Please note that you will have to be official members to qualify for Phase 2B.

Can I please check is it take a lot of effort to become an official member? like the SHHK you also need to volunteer certain house.. thanks a lot!
Usually you have to be confirmed to be a member of any church denomination.

For Methodist Church Singapore, I remembered applicants have to attend a Methodist church for at least 6 months to apply to attend the confirmation class. Note that new confirmation classes starts every 4 or 6 months depending on the size of the church. The big ones like Wesley or Barker road will probably have new intakes every 4 months. You should be able to check for timing of new intakes on individual church website. Confirmation classes will usually run for 10-12 weeks followed by a confirmation service (maybe a month or 2 later after the classes). This process will easily take a year or more.

After being confirmed, you have to demonstrate that you are a faithful member by serving, giving, attending cell groups etc before the pastor is willing to endorse you eligible for Phase 2B. So please do not expect the Pastor to endorse you for Phase 2B immediately after your confirmation service. Not sure if there is a minimum observation period for Methodist Church.

I may not be entirely correct in all of the above but I believed this is how most mainstream denominations work. You can check the Methodist Church website for more guidance.

Got the letter from ACSJ today. It was mailed out on the 2 Aug. Best feeling other than income tax rebates!

The moe website figures seem to show the 1km figure instead of total applied for 2c. It shows 44 for acsj which is the 1km figure.usually they show total mah.

Numbers are for 27 Jul. Today not updated yet.
There was a last minute applicant in ACSJ as well. He was loitering in the room for the last 30 mins always on his phone. When the clock showed 4.30 and one of the officer was ready to write the final numbers, he went up to the counter and told the officer he wants to register. Can hear parents sighing when he did that. One of the officer actually agreed to let him register because he has all the documents but another officer asked him which distance category he is applying for. He said something and I heard the officer telling him that balloting is for 1-2km only. Then he walked off.

Actually I don't understand him. Does it mean he hasn't registered at all at other school? By right since he is ready to register mean he has not registered or has withdrawn liao. So no matter what still got to register right? Unless he give up don't register at all wait for 2Cs.

He probably didn't qualify to register. Sounds like >2km and completely bonkers or completely naive no idea of the distance rules. Have to try at 2C(S) lor.

By the way, did the crazy PR at ACSP withdraw? Or naively left his application there?
He kept looking at the 4pm numbers and talking on his phone. Think there was one vacancy for >2km at 4pm which probably he thought he has chance of balloting.
