Hi,

As S1 Posting is by merit, how does HMT bonus points affect posting phase? For example,

First choice: non SAP school
Second choice: SAP school (+2 points)

If a child scores 250, and there are no more places in his first choice school, when he is considered for his second choice school, his T score of 252 (250+2) would be considered ie his application would rank above another candidate who had scored 251 even if that candidate had put the SAP school as first choice?

Is my understanding correct?

Yes

What if there are few students “vying” for last seat at the same and lowest COP say 251? Will ranking of their choices come into place?
I don’t think ranking comes into consideration at all.
1. If there are 2 candidates with identical scores ( up to nth decimal place , we aren’t privy to that) , candidates will be posted by citizenship status ( Sgp Citizen, Sgp PR then international student )
2. If both candidates are SC, then there will be an electronic ballot by the system.

I also would prefer percentile rankings, but my husband pointed out that for those who are in lower percentiles, it might be very demoralising. How would a child (and his parents) feel to know that he is in the 10th percentile of his cohort at Pr school? It’s different when you get to university, say, because even if you are the 10th percentile, it’s of a higher-achieving group of students. But I do agree that more info, even if it’s just the quartile and median scores, would be good.
The other issue of percentile info, apart from ranking students, is you are also indirectly ranking schools, which is the type of things that MOE wants to move away from.
Yup, that was the altruistic intention. However any savy person can download COP of the last 5 years fr the MOE website and do a simple sort by scores and get a crude ranking by school.

We want only to make educated choices. And in this instance having even band-based percentile rankings shrouded in secrecy is just plain silly.

Nothing makes much sense these days.

Stopping school comparisons does not solve the problem of excessive stress in schools or the dichotomy of path ways along social-economic stratas. Tackle the really tough problem of apathetic teaching staff and schools absolving education to tuition centres and parents.

some said the COP will go thru the roof this year while some said it will be more or less the same as last year...so quite confused now...which is more accurate? will it be the same or will it go up? :?

Its all speculation so should still just use last year COP as a guide. That’s the reason why MOE publish last year COP for parents to use as a guide and not speculate. Just ensure have some safe choices at least 2 in the selection list.

The demand for a secondary school does not vary much year on year, unless there is a change in curriculum, principal etc .
However the COP fluctuates according to the scoring of the cohort.
Parents go the roundabout way of determining 3rdLanguage cut offs or EESIS cutoffs just to get a feel of their childrens ‘ relative performance to make educated school choices.

Why can’t MOE make decision making easier by releasing the percentile ranking of the child, or the percentile by band or even the mean/median national average score ? I don’t see anything wrong at all. This is bureaucratic inertia, or keeping the status quo because “this-i-the-way-it-is”. Argh.

Which child will be selected if there was only 1 vacancy left in Nan Hua ( SAP)?

Child A : 242+ 1
Child B : 242

Child A’s school of choice in the following order
1. ACS : cut off 245 (misses the mark)
2. Nan Hua ( SAP) : cut off 242 ( meets)

Child B
1. Nan Hua : cut off 242 ( meets)
2. Swiss Cottage : cut off 240

Child A would be deemed to have 242 when his first choice is evaluated. And he would be deemed to have 243 when his 2nd choice evaluated.

However what happens when a Child B 242 elects Nan Hua as his first choice ? Would the System be sophisticated enough to place Child A’s choice above Child B’s?

I believe Child A (242+1) would be place above Child B (242) by the system since Nan Hua is a SAP school

— Thanks a bunch. That’s the answer I hope so too. It’s mighty sophisticated AI.

Heard a mommy says that the air is better at the central than toward the West area..wonder how the psi figure came from? an average?

My preferred app is the one by NEA. Search for it in the App Syore under \"MyENV\"
You get the moving 24h reading by region. Tap on the figure for a more detailed breakdown
Per my nose, I reckon a 1h lag in readings. But that's good enough to anticipate the trajectory.

Feeling quite blah, there’s a sinking feeling in the tummy.

I don’t care for the blue skies in the East but I am dreading the red tide in the West.
Blue’s benign , the red, he’s a Wild Card that one.

I think the voting this time is very much on demographic segments.

Got a MP GRC friend who has already popped the celebratory Champagne for the Blue Team this afternoon. The confidence.
