lag:
Dear lag,can i know how much pocket money to give? Today is my boy first day in school and i gave him $3.. is that enough?
Too rush during the orientation day no time to check out the price of the food in canteen.
Feel the same, three years back when my DS started at CCHMS,
Understand from your DS what are the activities he is having on that day as some days, he might need to stay back till late afternoon, for example during his CCA days, then he might need more money both for recess and also his lunch.
For myself, 3 to 8 dollars for a day, will be a reasonable amount that I give to my boy who is now in sec 3. -
RE: Appeal Secondary One Posting
BeContented:
With every change, I guess the first batch will always be the most affected.
However, even if directives from MOE on the COP were made known earlier, would those who had planned to appeal give up totally for this first year this is implemented? Honestly, I would still try ..... So directive out earlier or not would make no difference cos I'll still try. But it would definitely set the expectation that it could likely be unsuccessful. Hope for the best, expect the worst. Gotta move on.
I remembered the year when MOE gave the directive that DSA once accepted must be honored, but people still proceed to appeal. I know of people who tried all means via connections/network/& even approach MP etc to beat the directive but was not successful still. That year I believe all had to honor their DSA commitment.
Subsequent years, people stopped having the mentality to 'accept first, appeal to transfer later'.
So probably next year those who din meet the COP will be aware and won't bother to go thru the appeal process anymore. But I'm sure there will still be some who will still try
Sensing MOE is inching toward Every school is a GOOD school! maybe in future, students and parents would not know the exact score they get but just, A, B, C grading, etc ..... and secondary school posting is by allocation by MOE and students/parents need not select or make choices. And official secondary schools ranking is only known to MOE. -

Hello everyone,
Does anyone thinks CCHMS punishment is harsh? My dd is studying at cchms, told me that she saw and experienced many different types of punishment. Detention and teachers forcing students to copy large chunks of text or do reflection are very common . After exams debrief, teachers can force the whole level of students to stay back for one hour! :scared: :scared: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:
At flag-raising ceremony, there are just too many students rushing down, causing a massive jam at cramp walkways and staircases. As a result, the teachers have to block out the students who cant reach there on time. then the Discipline Master will punish them by asking them to do 20 squads and more while facing the morning sun. My dd said a male teacher even pulled her hair to stop her from joining her class, I am so shocked! :scared: How can a teacher do that to a student? especially he is a male?!   My dd always do things with a sense of urgency, but bc her classroom is very far from the parade square, the whole class always comes later than others, and the crowd jamming the staicases wont allow them to come down fast enough.
I personally feel that the school should not be punishing for no good reason. CCHMS is a generally a good school, they educate students on knowledge, they shouldn't make students suffer pain and humiliation in front of thousand of pupils. The DM always claims that he does not care if parents asked why is the school doing that, he claims they are EDUCATING the students to make them learn. Isn't that a bit too harsh?
Helping a friend to check on some potential schools for her DD. I have very good impression of CCHMS until this piece of info surfaces. I don't think I can tolerate this kind of chinese old-fashioned disciplinary actions from school's teachers and leaders. I believe they may cause grave repercussions for some pupils when they become adults. Sorry I won't recommend this sch to friend.
Maybe it's only me...
Factually, I wouldn't be helping a friend if I will to advise him or her purely on hear-say or from some article that I read but not verify as true yet.
If indeed you are sincere to help your friend, go down to the sch, talk to the teachers, talk to the principle and talk to parents that have kids going to that school. That will give you true insight so that you can really give sound advice your friend. -

Hi Victorica,
From your above, indeed you are extremely angry.
And after reading thru' your above, do have a couple of questions,
1) Did you check and understand from your DD on the reason why their teacher kept them back for an hour and what did your DD do during that one hour?
2) What is your worry or concern of some morning sun and 20 squads that the kids do? Injuries concern?
3) Pulling of hair is serious, not to mention by a teacher, did you lodge a complaint to the principle?
4) Your DD, knowing that her classroom is far away from the parade square and knowing that there will be jams at the stairways, with her sense of urgency, did she share with you what she plan to do to ensure that she can evade the jams and ensure that she will not be late? -

Don't think there is a overview or overall schedule for all the CCA available. Not that I know of.Hi all,
Is there a CCA overall schedule for parents/students to reference? It is tough to decide on which Cca to opt without having any information on the training schedules and commitment.
If you do know the training schedule for Chinese Orchestra, Concert Band and Basketball, can you please share with me? Thanks.
Cheers
But believe that other then mainly those uniform groups that have activities on Saturday, most of the CCAs seem to have their activities on Wednesday & Friday.
Hope that help. -

Btw, forgot to mention, the portal that the students log is CCHM Ask & Learn and my DC mention that the teachers also constantly keep the students updated with messages via iFin on their mobile phones too.simpledad:
I believe the CCHM wbsite by purpose is catering more toward the general public to have a good but brief overview of the school. Hence I am actually pretty okay with it.
And pertaining to sch activities and calendar, yes last year when my DC first join the school, I was initially a little concern but subsequently, discover that each kid is given a log in password which they can log in for their home works and also to get information from the school or their form teacher if they wish to disseminate news/information to them. They are indeed well inform.....not to worry.
And school do keep parents posted periodically on important info and announcement thru' SMS too.
Plus factually the sch parents support is one very helpful bunch as well.
I told ds what simpledad says n he agrees.
One thing I like best is the frequent sms postings from school n teachers so I am kept aware of what is happening as sometimes DS forgets to tell me.
