Congrats to those who and their kids had secured their places in Medicine, Dentistry locally or overseas.
FY22/23 NUS is a bit slow on asking you to pay for everything.
For Medicine you can switch out I think in 1 or 2 months if you or your child don’t find fit in the course.
Fy22 the admission is around $15k via loans/cpf but there is a miscellaneous fees which you pay cash. Staying in NUS cost varies and depends if you stay during holidays and if meals are included. Including allowances and no bonuses, I think 250K all in all is likely. I am pretty amazed with the stay so far. How I wish I am young again and repeat my stay in a different school! So must fun and lots of self discipline.
Only thing to take note, a GAP yr may be good idea if you did not secure a place. Transferring from another course may result in you paying full fees for specific yrs.
So far from Meet and Greet, white coat to how they have trained the kids, it is very much like ah boys/girls to Man/Ladies.
Scholarship has income ceiling and there is a bursary where the school champions to get donations for these kids.

There are around 200 returning docs every year. Overseas uni places are competitive as well. There are disadvantages such as residency, conversion. If you do overseas, IMHO is that you don't come back till u get consultant status which means you forgo any grants.
Hi,
Is there any diff for a doc who grad from local
Uni vs one who grad from overseas uni (of course one that is recognized by MOH)? I’m asking this in terms of both working in a public hospital upon graduation.
For local, guys tends to have some disadvantage due to NS liabilities when it comes to residency. But I do believe that you seek what you want, you still could get it but a longer route.
Medicine as a course is very different from others in the way they teach, play and tests.. -

Not sure if the UCAT for UK is same for NTU. Like BMAT, NTU had specific date that you take. A bit disadvantage for gals as they have to take in the midst of As.
Has anybody/DS/DD taken UCAT before? I read that you receive your results on the spot. Can share your experience?
UCAT is needed for some unis in UK. Most students who don't take H2 bio will have to take UCAT.
Yup. UCAT results are immediate... easy or not, I can't say as it was taken by my child -

It seems due to BMAT score or one of the section in BMAT was done well.
No he has not. NUS stated they will only notify after closing date. But for NTU’s LKC school, some of his classmates were notified to attend its MMI.
Yup. It is a great feeling to be selected but it can be very unfortunate when you don't get selected at the end.
Personal statement if Any, references and MMi are all important factors.
Good luck for your child -

Not sure. As my DS 1st choice is Medicine. He passed through MDT and got interview for Dentistry. He had only letter of offer for Medicine which he accepted early as non acceptance at specific time means you reject the course. If recollect, Medicine first batches acceptance is much earlier than dentistry.
According to my daughter. Assuming you perform so well for both. NUS will only issue an offer letter for a place in either Medicine or Dentistry (depending on 1st choice). They will not issue offer letters to both for you to decide. Anyone know of students being offered both Medicine & Dentistry? :?
Dentistry is 4 yr and Medicine is 5 yrs as baseline. There is a difference in total fees and bonds as well.
All the best! Enjoy the process.. but it can be nail biting as well especially the waitlist ones. Both Medicine and Dentistry tests can be a bit stressful but if you use the skills you have learnt, you should be fine. -

Like the other author mentioned, based on your choices, you get a shot at both medicine and Dentistry. Both has its tests. for Dentisty if you passed MDT, you get that interview.
Is there truth that once you select NUS Medicine as first choice and Dentistry as second choice. NUS will no longer consider you for Dentistry since they are not place as first choice - Vice versa. Then first choice seems to be the only choice unless you are also considering other fields of study.
Assume you gone through interview and you feel good about it and Medicine was your first choice and you give a place, you won't know if you are accepted to Dentistry based on my understanding. I guess no one will reject Medicine if it is first choice and try their luck on 2nd choice. -

For this point, I cannot disagree. Based on internet available information you have around 200 returning doctors who do housemanship in Singapore per year. That is around 25 percent!
I have also met doctors here that studied 3 years in NUS or NTU and then 4 years in a aussie medical school.
So there are many ways to study medicine overseas.
I am not sure which uni they graduated from. Factors to get into those schools are slightly different as they don't look at RP. Nor exactly you get great BMAT or UCAT secure a place neither.
A great score in A Level, BMAT/UCAT is a start but not definite. The profile, empathy, etc, are factors in personal statement will be important towards being accepted for at least interview. The next part is doing well in the interview. What is considered a good interview? I don't know. For those been offered and accepted, you definitely must be able to afford it.
If you are equating liquidation vs overseas study, probably the cost is pretty close for the top few schools. UK Cambridge is around 60K pounds for 6 years,.Glasgow is 55K pounds for 5 yrs. Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, If I recollect is cheaper. But you need to consider not taking the grant.
Experience wise, I think it will be different for studying locally and overseas for the child and parents. Assuming that the family can afford the child to study overseas with existing finances, studying locally with assumptions that the child graduate and don't break that bond, you can spend that money for great holidays and many other things (such as investing for future, such as own clinic, flat, marriage, CPF, etc)
End point is similar and that is to become a doctor. Path and journey will be different for many I believe. -

Great info for current and future families whom may be on waitlist.
Hi, at the NUS meet and greet, the reserve list timeline was advised as follows:
24 May
1st Acceptance Deadline - The 1st batch of reserves will be offered after
17 Jun
2nd Acceptance Deadline - The 2nd batch of reserves will be offered on the week of 20 Jun onwards
Jun-Jul
Offers will be made on an ad-hoc basis when a candidate rejects the offer or does not disrupt from NS
Hope this info helps!
Btw, I am curious if NUS mentioned on the number/percentage of waitlisted students being offered?
Would waitlisted student who are not offer during their first application and the student reapply for the next year via ABAS, would such students get advantage or depends on merits among those applied under ABAS?
Thank you -

If you transfer from another course to law, dentistry and medicine, subsidised fee is calculated as follows, it seems.
Could she spend a year doing other related courses and then apply again next year, using the courses she took as evidence that she will do well in medicine?
Semesters of subsidised fees remaining for the new course = Maximum candidature period4 of the new
course – Semesters of subsidised fees consumed in the non-SIT/SUSS course(s)2 – (Percentage of consumed
candidature from SIT/SUSS2 x Maximum candidature period3 of the new course) – Semesters of candidature
exempted due to credit exemptions granted from Pre-University Courses/Modules taken or work experience
Looks too complex for me liao...
NUS meet and greet session say 5th yr full fees but it may not be totally true.. need to find out from MOE the exact calculation... -

For those parents whose kids are in YLL waitlist and have attended today’s YLL virtual meet and greet session, there was a breakout room for WL. It will be nice of those who attended share what is being discussed.
Quite a few questions was on surety for those who have another child already med school or other courses which needs surety. Also there are question on completed 1st year student in Singapore Uni to YLL on grant (likely the 5th year you need to pay full fees and it is a lot!). Boys who going or are in NS and offered a place in YLL… how many are disrupted? Is disruption good? There is chance for those to take 1 more year to do Master course but those who disrupted will not have the chance to do it. Question on Grades, missing classes, etc. Financial support, etc.
YLL virtual meet and greet session is a good session and answers many questions on financial, study years in YLL, activities, etc. It is much assured they will have fun but tough years. They will be trained to doctors to take care of our needs in the future.
Good luck for those who are in WL or have kids who aspire to be doctors
