I am so touched and comforted that yesterday Parents’ Seminar was so well organised. Teachers are so hardworking and committed to work hand in hand with the children. Even more surprised that the Principal is so open to suggestion. Within less a day, show the Principal the Parents Gateway apps and immediately agreed to endorse using it. More importantly, the school prioritise student emotional well being and resilience before others.

This NJC Principal and Teacher and the school culture are totally different from my other twin’s school.

I have a twins and both go to a different school. The other is a christian school.

So I can attest the DIFFERENCE.

Exactly. It all depend on the mindset of the child. Resilience of the child.

Family issues, friend(s) issue, addiction to phone, breakdown in communication etc etc all can contribute to not doing well in studies in all whichever schooling path the child is in.

Was at the NJC orientation yesterday. The Year Head mentioned that there are only 10 dropouts since the start of IP NJC till todate. Some of the 10 dropouts are not really dropout. Halfway through, the student developed a liking in certain field and hence switched to another field. The Year Head did mentioned that some of the dropouts are like…1. never like the IP program at all as the student wanted the mainstream and wanted to join in with their primary school friends. 2. did not want to study at all.

The Year Head also did mentioned like some IP students in the dual track system did not fit into their school and did not want to transfer to O-level route ----- hence transferred over to NJC IP. The Year Head mentioned this one important note that most parents are so glad to hear this…There is absolutely no correlation of PSLE result to A Level result. And almost 99% of the NJC students will go into the Uni. Most important is the students must LOVE the school and with this positive mindset, everything will be easily fall into place. I took his words and asked the Parents-in-Action group and they all said the same tune.

I am sharing this for parents to have a some sort of peace of mind. All children are smart and intelligent in their own ways. Yes I totally agreed here with the folks sharing that the school culture and environment are VERY important. I am glad that my son chose NJC over RI. I am very happy that the school is willing and honest to disclose the number of dropouts. Not many school are willing to share this. The number of dropouts in NJC is small considering no dual track systems.

Hello everyone. My DS is going to NJC next year and he is looking forward to it. May I know as a parent, is the PAACT membership worthwhile to sign up?

ChiefKiasu, do you have history of high blood pressure prior to having stroke? Why do you say you are prepared in having a stroke? How do you know you are having one soon?

aSecStudentFrom2019, the SAT/ACT/TOEFL are purely college test. They are mostly used in the US when you apply to undergraduate studies and test mostly on English and math comprehension.

Perhaps I have not been clear. My nephew wanted to read Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry in a few specific Uni(s) that he had in mind but was informed that some of the Uni(s) he had in mind does not accept IB. But there are some Uni is able to accept. So when one chooses the course, just need to be mindful of that. Unlike A level, is it of no question that the A level program is acceptable in all Uni being the most used as the standard for assessing entry requirement. Just for sharing.

Just asking. Why in almost every other post I came across, I read "don’t flame me" quite so often? Is flaming each other happen so often in this forum? Folks here turn nasty very easily? Anyone that I should be careful about? Sorry for asking so many questions, as I am very new to this forum.

To answer some queries on getting rewards in IB, it depends on which overseas Uni you are looking and which course. Do take note, overseas Uni. Because chances are most local IB students somehow do not go to local Uni because it was mentioned that the emphasis is on A-level. I am not sure whether is this true but these was what my nephews said so. As in why, perhaps you can find out yourself. My oldest nephew wanted to go to a certain courses in certain Uni and that particular courses did not accept IB. My another nephew quit IB halfway and went to IP. He was easily top 10% in IB but was placed bottom 10% in A-level. He said that IP subjects are more difficult than IB. So on the advice by nephews, we decided to take the IP route as oversea Uni is not an option for us. Just for sharing.
