i need a general opinion of maris stella high , as i heard that generally the school has lost its bite in its mother tongue ( chinese ) as a SAP school , but overall is it a good school for a boy , coz heard that parents who whosee boys cant get to catholic high will try maris stella , as there is balloting of >2km 40 places for 44 register for this category ... for friday /// thats why 71 places for 78 registerred..

For primary school Maris Stella is not the average version of catholic high , the PSLE results for quality pass are comparable. Don't forget Catholic has 2 classes of GEP classes whereas MS don't have . Alot of good schools have better results are bec of the GEP classes that pull up the standard with individuals few having stellar results. Take away the GEP classes , they will not be as good. If u look at the quality passes of A n A* , MS result is even than Pei Chun in term of English , Math n Science except for Chinese.
Chinese , they didn't perform as well slightly below national std .still it is 80% with quality pass. So this is the area that they need to look into .

MS has a higher intake (300) compared than to catholic high (240) . MS is located in a sparsely populated area compared to CH in bishan which is densely populated .MS used to be surrounded by cemetary n now empty field waiting to be developed .Nearby are mostly landed propteries with only 20 blocks of aging hDB blocks within 1 km. most residents are aging n few new family nucleu there. So the balloting will normally for 1-2 km. If at 2B phrase , if u are catholic , it will be strategic move to consider MS even if u are outside 2 km. Though subject to balloting, still has a high chance compared to catholic high which is more popular. At 2c phrase, historically , the balloting will be at 1-2 km .But the geographic climate is changing there . Next year onwards, likely the Bartley residence buyers will be able to register there if TOP is 2016 . then the competition will be more stiff even at 2B.
Forgot to mention , MRT station next to it - sheltered all the way to school. Very convenient. Not every school has that \"privilege \"
But at the end , it is the academic ability n discipline of the child that play the important part to get good result and not the school.

I got to agree. My friends all tell me MS is as good as Catholic. I thinking of register my son there. but why you compare with Pei Chin? I think Pei Chin is a neigbour school in Toa Payoh?
