mommyNg:Totally agree. My DD still does HCL but being a non-SAP school, just needed to pass HCL. I believe NYGH and HCI, students would be required to re-take if results are not a certain standard. My DD's strengths are in Maths and Sc, therefore, need not go through unnecessary stress of SAP school.1) Smaller class sizeBonaFides:Dear Parents
Could you please kindly advise why your DD/DS and/or you chose the NJC instead of Nanyang Girls or Hwa Chong which are next to the school?
Thanks!!!
2) Non-HCL environment
3) No O level class
4) Inclusive and supportive environment (e.g., no separation/segregation between GEP or non-GEP students for the first 2 years)
5) Cheap (school fees) and good

Hi, much as I agree with JJ1111, I thought, jmo, you may wanna sit down with your dc & examine the reason(s) she's not performing to expectations. Is it insufficient textbook knowledge? Application skills? ... If textbook knowledge you may wanna read up a semester in advance. Any general Secondary school guide in the bookstore would give you a rough idea of what to expect in the coming term. If it is application, you may wanna look at some questions and model answers (after having acquired the foundation knowledge). I understand that it is common for the cohort average (MA, SC) to be an A & often full marks for MA (top scorer).JJ1111:
...My dd entered NJC based on her PSLE results. She's in JH1 but is not performing academically well. In fact, she's below the average for most subjects. Any parents went through the same thing? Any advice?
I feel majority of the student in NJ, academically is very strong...As long as she felt she is coping well and is not at borderline pass or fail. Personally, I feel nothing to worry.
JH1 cohort camp is coming - relax first perhaps then can even try contacting subject tutor for advice?
My dd entered NJC via PSLE results and chose the school as her first choice. She is now in JH3 but has been above average for most subjects since JH1, without tuition as NJC discourages tuition. However, she is used to it as she didn't have much tuition too in primary except for Higher Chinese then. She has a very heavy CCA-canoeing and normally studies only 1 month before during CCA stand down. I didn't buy much assessments as she mainly depended on NJC notes and past 3 years' papers provided by teachers. Glad she's coping well independently despite the yearly boarding. Therefore, I do feel if the kid has the motivation and discovered the right method of approaching IP education, it may be even less tedious than O level track as she need not do much papers but learning still takes place.
