Is A Maths really the same as E Maths? I know they are both \"maths\", but it's like an accountant (e-math) vs a astrologist (a-math).

amath is definitely a must for those thinking of going to jc (as key concepts like differentiation, integration, quadratic inequalities etc are taught here). without amath background, a student would likely struggle a lot with jc math (assuming h2 math)

Sciences and a/e math results easily show improvements with more practice. Arts subjects on the other hand, are much more difficult to improve. I’d personally go with literature - especially difficult to hone even with good teachers.

I’m selling SCGS 2010-2011 compiled school prelim papers for pure science biology for $10. Includes 14 papers in total, with papers from schools like catholic high, VS, scgs. Only 1 part of one of the VS papers has been done. PM if keen.

This is because she has been bullied by a number of girls in her primary school and she has lost many friends. But she's academically excellent and she doesn't wish to go to MGS or RGS because she would like to be in a slower-paced environment. She gets along with people really easily if they're nice to her. She's the top scorer for English every year since she was in primary 1 and she is very good in mathematics and science too. Her Chinese is a little weaker than English but she manages to score As and even A*s. She scores either distinction/merit for HMT. It'll take her about 45min to travel to SCGS via public transport (and she doesn't mind it because we have traveled there before for the open house). It takes her only 15min if she travels by our car but some days I may need her to use public transport. I'm expecting her to score at least 265< for PSLE. Please reply

SC is a good school, but I definitely wouldn't consider it slower paced in comparison to MGS.

Any advice on the SMU law written test from parents/seniors? :x

Some have already been accepted. Admissions can last up till July, so dont hold your breath. There is an appeal process, it opens around the first batch of rejections. Acceptance usually streams in trickles but rejections usually come in batches.

How important is CCA in JC?


I have heard of some students taking 2 CCAs, wouldn't it be too time-consuming?

If you are aiming scholarship, US unis, med/law other courses that will assess your portfolio it is impt. For other courses not so much. I took 2 CCAs in JC - one was high commitment (sport) the other was low, only once a week because it's a club. I would recommend that if one is unable to attain a leadership position in a sport CCA (since these usually go to the better players), try joining a club to get a leadership position + DO something/change something and improve the CCA so that you will have something to talk about for leadership which is much better than having an empty title where you did nothing as a leader.

The ranking points are based on your grades for the subjects, and imo it's the grade for the H2s that really matter the most since each grade is worth 2x that of a H1..

It is based on the rank points. Your grades for specific subjects are unimportant except for courses such as law (min B for gp), and for pharmacy (good pass in chem). All courses ONLY care about your total rank points, except for those with interview such as law, medicine, archi, dentistry which will consider other factors. (This does not apply for SMU because every course for SMU has interview.)


edit: also, you can calculate the 10th percentile UAP of every course since the IGP assumes C for both GP and PW. eg. 10th percentile is AAA/C. This means the 10th percentile UAP was 60+7.5+7.5+7.5 = 82.5
