My DS is strong in Maths and MO but weak in languages especially Chinese. Am considering ACSI but I have heard that ACSI usually gives more DSA for sports and few to academic. My DS is not from ACS pri or junior. Has any parent here had success for DSA acad (especially math) to ACSI ?

my DS is strong in math but weak in languages. Does ACSI or Cat High offer DSA academic (Math) domain if I choose O level track? Or the O level track DSA is usually for non-academic domains in these 2 schools? does anyone had DS accepted under O level track for academic domains for these 2 schools

    • RE: DSA 2019

My DS is in NUS High. NUS High focuses on Math and Science but there is a emphasis on the humanities subjects as well. Most of my DS classmates want to do Medicine or Computer Science in Uni. There are some who want to do pure Maths/Science or humanities subjects.

In the core modules, the kids are taught Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology according to the O level syllabus in Y1-Y3. And in the later years, according to the A level syllabus. The Math and Science is some theory but mainly application type questions in the tests and exams. The students dont take O and A levels per se, so there is more learning for fun and less learning exam techniques to ace the O and A levels. My DS hardly does the same experiment during his lab sessions in NUS High, whereas I remembered doing titration experiments for months leading up to the A level exam in my time.

There are indeed more boys than girls. But, I dont think its a problem. Whatever sec school your DC goes to, there will be boys/girls in Y5/Y6 in JC.

Also, the NUS High students are really focused on their schoolwork and representing the school for competitions.

Is it possible to travel overseas in June if my DS is trying for DSA into NUS High, ACSI, HCI or RI?

    • RE: GEP 2014 - Screening & Selection

My DS said that for the Maths paper (after the break) today:

Booklet 1 had 20 MCQs and 20 open ended questions.

Booklet 2 had 4 MCQs and 4 open ended questions only.

For those whose children know how many open ended questions they left blank, they can have some idea of their child’s Maths paper performance.

Please do not discuss anything until Sat.
There’re kids who have not taken the test yet.
They’re taking it today and tomorrow. (Based on info by one of the forumers)

I don’t think knowing how many questions there are in the paper helps any child on MC who has not taken the paper yet.
