I am a parent as well as a secondary school Math teacher. I have seen many students from P6 who transist to Sec 1 as I had been their form teacher. The students need to change their mindset. Secondary school life is very different from life in primary school. They have to be more independent as teachers will not ‘spoon feed’ as much as in primary school. Moreover, there are so many more subjects in secondary school. Some students will be heavily involved in CCA. Thus, they must learn to manage their time well.

As for Math, there is a huge portion on algebra which is the weakest topics amongst many students. Have to build foundation as this foundation will bring them through to upper sec.

I send both my children to Hua Cheng too. They enjoy the lessons and the materials are organized too. The topics are inline with MOE syllabus. So it helps reinforce what was taught in school.

I subscribe "Science Adventure" and "Young Scientist" for my children. They have various levels to suit the primary level of the child. My children love reading them. They gain knowledge and the understanding of Science related questions as they read along.
