Our argument was that how can a receipt be a contract? How can it not be the teachers duty to mark the assignments? How will the student learn their mistakes and improves if the teacher doesn't mark their work?

Parents may want to try adding a caveat to the \"No Refund\" wording in the receipt with the expected performance of the center. Make sure the carbon copy has the imprint of that. If center refused, you will know whether they perform as advertised.

Or Maybe strike off the No Refund wording and put in the expected deliverable in the receipt.

Sorry to hear abt your experience! If I'm not wrong, in the consumer-service provider context, the \"Contract\" may refer to the \"receipt\" or \"invoice\" or \"ticket\". Your airline e-ticket is a contract between you the passenger and the airline.

May I know if JEC let consumers sign off any enrolment form with Ts&Cs upon registration. Was there any refund policy with regard to unsatisfactory performance by tutors, or a list of deliverables the tutor is contractually obliged to meet by the end of the said \"Contract\" term?

:offtopic: Too bad tuition sector here still not very regulated...Tuition centres are not EduTrust accredited. Nor are they one of the consumer sectors that can apply for CaseTrust. Maybe you can lobby Case to makan the tuition sector too? Or ask CPE to expand their scope to include tuition centres under EduTrust?

At some point, the govt needs to regulate this multi-million dollar sector, e.g. licensing of tuition centres and tutors (like they do that for tour guides and real estate agents) upon satisfying some criteria like pass test to renew operator license every 3 years, or apply to come under Spring's Customer-Centric Initiative, or subject them to annual grading by regulatory body like MOE? LOL

No, we didn't sign any form. We will continue to pursue this with the Government Agencies.

parents, I advise that you don’t just look at their course books, it means nothing if it is not taught or marked. When they marked, make sure it is not going through the motion with "ticks". We found errors in those "ticks".

Sigh…how can a tuition teacher teaching a class of 20 students and at that much depth? It is already a tell tale sign of the effectiveness and performance of the center.

It is definitely hard to find a good and responsible center.

    • RE: Jiang Education Centre - Discussion

Hi, it has been 5 months since I last wrote about our experience with Jiang. My wife paid the fee 2 months in advance due to the pressure from the center to pay quickly or lose the place if the class is fully booked. We withdrew because we found the teachers were not marking their assignments and also did not have conducted the Composition weekly as advocated by the center. My kids were in the Jin Yin class (3 hours session). The center rejected our request for refund and insisted that we find someones to replace them. We raise the case to CASE and Small Claims Tribunal and got rejected as the complaints were against past contract and not future contract.

The center feedback that the teachers had not done wrong and it is the parents duty to make sure that the teachers mark their assignments. The small claim tribunal court recorded that the contract does not guarantee that the results would improve and neither does it state that the worksheets and homework would be marked by the teachers.

The so called "contract" refers to the receipt.

I hope the sharing of my experience with Jiang will help other parents in deciding the center. If it is guarantee, please make sure it is written somewhere or have the center write in black and white stating that. We felt being unfairly treated and will definitely pursue further with the ministries. Will update further on our next journey to seek justice.

The center said they will not return the money unless we find someone to replace…jialat…look like we have entered into a "black inn". We had filed our case to Case and Small Claim Tribunal. We don’t agree that they can base on small prints on the receipt (no refund) to confiscate our advance payment. The course has not even started and we are not denying anyone from the places in the center. No reason to confiscate our money.

Just sharing experience on this centre that we had.
