RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Junior)
Thanks sugarbunny for the info that you've shared:-)
I've since called up the school, talked to ACPS as well as the bus contacts and student care (MCYC) at ACPS to find out further details.
Yes, the bugbear is transport issue - the latest time the ACJS bus can possibly try to accomodate my request is to pick up at 4.30pm not 6pm or 6.30pm when the student care closes. I'm a FTWM and we stay in the East. So Kiddiewinkie can't work for my DS...This is gonna be a tough one to overcome -
RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Junior)
Hi all,
My son is gonna be in P1 ACJS too next year 2012! He's excitedly looking forward to it. Mummy also now (though a bit late alredi lor) gotta get into the act of getting to know other parents so that I can double check what he tells (or forgets to tell) me when he start school next year
Hmm...I read in earlier thread here that there seems to be BASC (run by YMCA) in ACPS... Does anyone have any idea if there is BASC in ACJS as well? :xedfingers: If not, do you think got chance for ACJS student to join the BASC in ACPS (if ACPS does have BASC)? Anxious mummy needs to work out suitable student care arrangements for him....
Also, I stay in the East - so will have to rely on school bus to bring him to school. Do you think I can book the bus service now or have to wait until orientation on 4 Nov? Also, what time do you reckon the bus will pick up from the East- 6am??
thanks so much for all your kind help in advance! -

RE: St Margaret's Primary
Hi 2bbtang,
I can understand how you feel as I went through a somewhat similar situation as you last year when my dd was due for P1 registration. After a long discussion about strategic & worst case scenario plans with dh, we finally put our dd for SMPS Phase 2C >2km registration. This was done after tracking closely MOE website results and discussion thread in kiasuparents.comThere were 79 applicants for this phase which had 74 vacancies. We were quite sure that we stood a good chance. As it turned out, our dd was one of the 3 unfortunate ones being balloted out (there were 2 pairs of twins)... We were of course shocked  ...fortunately we had made back-up plans & that quickly kicked in. At the same time, we put our dd on SMPS waiting list, trusting that the One up there would know what is best for our dd
As it turn out, by God's grace, SMPS called up a few months later out of the blue, telling us that there was a place for my dd...we were completely overjoyed. Our dd is now happily in P1 Grace in SMPS, blissfully unaware of the stressful times both her parents went through...
I hope you can find some encouragement from my story above and know that miracles do happen -
RE: St Margaret's Primary
its true ponyo, nowadays even parents cannot live without the computer  ...we need to be disciplined enough to bring them (& ourselves too!) out to smell the flowers and feel the warmth of sunshine or have raindrops on our heads.

RE: St Margaret's Primary
yes, i did attend the session (although i was a bit late). Then chinese teacher says all the presentation materials will be posted on the website (including the PTC slides which my dd FT just confirmed via email). Think chinese teacher said the web administrator's away, so when he's back (shd be sometime this week), the materials should be available from school's website.
The session is quite informative as it gives a quick run through of the common mistakes & will help parents reinforce correct intonation. Also during break time, Creative Knowledge also displayed some Chinese IT applications. Apparently the entire chinese textbook (from P1 to P6) can be accessed online via a one-year subscription with Creative Technology. The chinese teacher says that to make Chinese lessons more interesting, they do make use of the i-flash book to spice up the lessonsnowadays, learning chinese is such fun...

RE: St Margaret's Primary
Hi plum-cake,
thanks for your reminder, i've just checked the pm as i've not gotten into the habit of checking them...will make it a point to do so from now on...
I didn't get to meet anyone from this forum at the PTC unfortunately....guess everything wais sort of back-to-back & yes, it was getting late too...
i'm glad at least to be able to share & talk to all you & other mums in this thread esp when u don't know any other parents fm the same school -
RE: St Margaret's Primary
Hi ponyo.
besides what tri-mum suggested, u can also help your girl by labelling 2 L-shaped plastic folders {write on the sticky part of the positpad, together with her name & class & just paste it on the folder}. 1 is for 'To bring home', the other for 'To return to teacher'. Also, thanks for your detailed direction guide via the stairs  (I've been wondering where exactly it is for a long time), I'll definitely try it the next time round.
I do the folder labelling for my girl to help teach her some organisational skills - she need to identify what docs goes to which folder when she has docs from sch & when she packs her bag every nite...heehee this actually helps me keep track of which are the docs/forms that parents need to know/sign & return...
And, does anyone here have kids in the YMCA student care? I've signed up for the NASCANS and wondering if any parents can share their experience with NASCANS... -
RE: St Margaret's Primary
Hi plum-cake,
sorry to have missed you at PTC,it was getting late...hope to meet up with you the next time round...
Hi Tri-mum,
My dd & ds has been attending swim lessons(& both can do the frog style without board alredi. ds (who just turned 4 in dec last year) started oni about 6 months ago & can do frog style alredi...he loves to do the cannonball at the deep pool. I've kept an eye earlier on but realised that i was wasting my time as both kiddos are in good hands - the coach brings the kids who are 'ready' to the deep pool for their lessons without the swim board...the board is oni used as an indicator to the distance the kids need to cover in the pool...
. The coach contact details are as follows if u want to contact him:
Singapore Elite Athlete's Learning School
Dr Kenneth Soh
Principal Trainer / Coach
Mobile +65 8377 2887 / +65 9772 2563
Web ~ http://eliteswimcoach.tripod.com/
Uncle Kent (that's how the kids call him) conducts lessons at pools that are at parents' convenience as best as possible. We do ours at bedok swimming pool. We found out much later that he's also the swim coach for Red Swastika.
