Wonder how parents feel about AEP? It seems that there is no difference for AEP between Weighted Assessment n EOY. Now is like doing 4 End of Year examination. Equally demanding.

And what is the role of AEP teacher? If teacher is always on mc or not in class, just give an assignment n students are expected to do on their own n figure out themselves, then need teacher for what?
Does AEP have a weekly schedule of what the students are expected to learn? I only see my child draw n draw, paint n paint, rushing projects over projects…what’s the difference between general art and AEP?

Is there a parent chat group anywhere for Sec 3? I realised the chemistry practical n worksheets are either incomplete ( only selected qns done as instructed by teacher) or not marked. My child’s work is partially marked for a few. No answer key is given so god knows the rest is correct or wrong? As of now, I do know of another class that is rushing through all their incomplete worksheets this weekend as the test is coming.

This is what I know:

(1) DSA kids: the school does look at results through their own ways n means. (I won’t elaborate here). So if the child is accepted, that means THEY BELIEVE that even if the psle score is not wonderful, the child CAN SURIVIVE in the school.

(2) There is only one n half class of DSA kids. Rest of classes ( random) very few. Psle scores still above 264 for majority.

(3)PRC/Taiwan or whatever: they put in lots of investment in going after best tuitions/ many tuitions/ travel overseas to a foreign country to study etc etc. So they deserve the best if they put in effort. Many of them enter with psle around 270 ( my child’s class). Put it this way: you leave your country to another country, won’t you only want the BEST? Why do you want to make so many sacrifices just to enter some random school? Then might as well stay in own country.

(4) Bilingual studies: it’s open for Singapore citizens only. If you can prove that you are superb in LA n HCL, by all means enter. SG kids are not disadvantaged. In fact, good to study together with PRC or Taiwanese etc cos they “open up your eyes to another group of people”. They are highly competitive ( makes SG kids wake up) and they help to raise standard of Chinese. Personally, I feel that this is good exposure which may influence future attitudes in life. At least the SG kids now know, stay complacent n no one waits for you. You can rest n relax, do what you want, the world moves on. You deserve what you get…

Dragon boating: the girls will get wet n need to change. Please remind your child to change in the toilets even though it’s crowded. This year, my girl told me that one class changed outside ( surrounded by boats). My qn was: any CCTV around? :slapshead:

In class: to save time, girls change in classroom. ( They were told to change in toilets). Do note that there are boys from HCI or some from immersion programme in the school. You never know when they will walk wrongly or “tour around” the classrooms.

Yes, but you may want to email the 2 form teachers to alert them if you girl is the “weak or faint” type so that they n the student leaders on duty can keep a lookout. Don’t worry, the girls are very well looked after in NYGH.

For parents new to NYGH: for camps/ learning journeys/ outdoor activity, there will be briefing+ a list of things to bring will be given to your child. Don’t worry.
The coming dragon boating, dark coloured shirts as their white PE shirt will be a bit “see through” when wet. Long pants so that the girls’ legs are protected.

Handphones: not allowed to use during lesson time but can check in-bet lesson as teacher will inform them change of venue etc through class chatgroup. Very common for science/LA lesson.
Except lesson time/CCA training hours, I think the girls are using hp throughout the day like nobody’s business. They will hv many chatgroups, share many animes/ Kpop news/ mtv/ webtoons etc etc.

Yes, but depends on your grade. If your child is A1 already, then cannot.

If selected for AEP, is it child will be stuck for 4 years? Or can choose again in end of sec 2, via streaming exercise?

If can choose again in the streaming exercise, can they choose FCE when they did not attend any lesson in lower sec?

The moment you get selected, you need to sign a contract with moe to undertake AEP. Then the money will be given to you as scholarship. You hv sold \"your soul\" n since this subject let you enjoy a lot of benefits along the way, it's not up to you to \"want, take\" \"don't like, leave\".

For lower sec, AEP is within class timetable. ( So your friends go for food studies/ general art, you go AEP). School ends at the same time for everybody.

For upper sec, lesson is after school ( just like another CCA). It's 2 days per week. Consider your CCA which can be 2 days or 3 days, your whole week is gone. If you still hv foreign language ( 1 day) n during exams ( 3-4 days: oral/ listening/ written etc) you still need to find time for AEP. There will be clashes......Not to mention tuition classes.......Can be a bit stressful if you do last minute work.

After all your effort, you go poly n not many choices related with AEP......However, you do learn a lot of other intrinsic skills that is useful for workplace later.
It's what you prefer.
