    • RE: Montessori Phonics - Introduction To Single Letter Sounds

      Hi Buds,

Thank you very much for the detailed sharing of Montessori Phonics. It does makes introducing the letters more interesting. But of course also more preparation work for mummies.

U mentioned that \"in all these lessons, letters of the alphabet are not introduced\"

Does it mean that each time we introduce a new letter to the child we always say \"this letter makes the sound e.g. \"/c/\". We do not say to the child \"this letter is the letter C\"?
Also do we only show the small capital letters to the child throughout the single letter sounds session?
I've showed my child the big capital letters, not all 26 letters yet. Should i stop it in case i confuse the child?
As for the sandpaper, do you know where can i buy sandpaper? Would like to make my own letters for tracing purposes.
      Thank you for your advice![/u]

      learningtobekiasu:
i'm sure. i am aiming for my daughter to get in there as well. either move to within 1km or obtain grassroots leadership priority - this will guarantee a place. every year, only about 20 or so go in via phase 2B simply because grassroots is the only option for that phase.

      hi learningtobekiasu,
do you mean in order to be in Phase 2B for SCGS, we need to join RC under Tanjong Pagar Constituency and have to hold leadership post in the RC?
thanks in advance for your reply!

[quote]Have check out CS montessori, found out that parents r not allowed in on the 1st day of school. i was like 'GOsh! wats gonna happen inside?? ive no idea at all. and how is my gal gonna transist to being in a room of strangers?' ANd they have no trial classes only, 1 short orientation b4 school start... I'm looking at convenient location as am worried about travelling for a 2.5yr old (tats her age next jan when N1 starts). Then there is a super near (5mins walk) kindergarten but its cost $800/mth..pretty expensive we felt and its not montessori. Oh my, wat a headache for just hunting a kindergarten. I can't imagine Pri school manzz....

THANKS a GREAT deal for the above BUDS :thankyou: Am gonna take time to digest it.

Yes, its so compelling to be teacher/parent directed. I'm an impatient person...not sure if can stay true to 1 method all the way to K2 or not šŸ˜›

Hehee! It's understood dear... and you're most welcome! šŸ˜‰
Pre-school shopping ain't like how it used to be during our time..
The only criteria was must be near. Must be cheap(est)!
On top of that, there weren't that many choices then either.. šŸ˜›

Hey, I didn't stay true to one school of thought either! So no worries..
A bit of both can be good too. šŸ˜„ Important thing is at this young
tender age, going to school should be something fun that they will
      look forward to (going) everyday..

There's also the trial and error to factor in upon the final decision.
The teacher you saw the first time was great...then found out she quit
halfway, teaching your child's class... or teacher was ok, but child did
not enjoy - kena bully... or cannot adapt that quickly - cry and cry for
long periods of the day... many many other scenarios. What i'm trying
to say is that, even through the best decisions (can be expensive ones
too!)... the child will show you how they like or do not like the place..
Unless you give the child time and the place a chance to try out, you
will not know if that is what works for him/her..

      Happy shopping! šŸ˜‰

      thanks buds!
Yes indeed been 'shopping' for schools these days. And like u say, i need to enrol her in at least 1 b4 i can know what is suitable if not best for her.

      Hi buds,
I'm searching for a school for my child and like sunny am clueless on which teaching method to sign my gal up. whether if montessori or non-montessori method school to choose..realise there are so many concerns just looking for a suitable pre-school - convenient if not near tg pagar, is it worth paying the $ and travelling the distance, what should i be looking out for/expecting from the school?

have read your posts to sunsweet and found them very useful and informative. lets me have a little bit of idea but still am lost if i were to go to say CS montessori and ask what the pre-nursery programme they have... how will i know if their prog is truly montessori...or rather if i go to a school what sort of prog is good to cover what a pre-schooler should learn?
      can anyone help?

      hi hi

      hi sunny,
