Do you ever wonder why all the chinese elderly that never took PSLE MT or HMT school can read chinese newspapers and write in chinese better than our children?


All the resources that has been put in to help our children master MT (Chinese) and yet we cannot even achieve the standard of those who had never even go to school but yet master Chinese?

Something is wrong isn’t it?

sotongdad, I thot I saw yr thread sharing yesterday nite ard 10 plus and it was a good one on your observation at the tea session. How come you deleted it ?

I was under the impression that the schools can only allocate up to 50% of their available vacancies for DSA. I went through the ealrier threads and realised that the IP schools can allocate ALL (100%) of their Sec 1 vacancies for DSA. Hence my analysis of the school giving out less than 50% for CO could be wrong.

My observation during the tea session was that there are easily more than 100 girls there. This means there are more than 100 on the WL including those that did not turn up for the tea session.

So if the Principal is so confident to publicly assured all the parents and the girls that as long as you put NYGH as 1st choice, you will be granted admission to the school, right down to the last girl on the WL, it can only infer 2 things:

1. The number of COs given was very little. The available DSA vacancies are more than the number on the WL

2. The school might allocate more than 50% to DSA applicants. Total CO and WL is well under the 400 limit.

Just my thoughts. I could be wrong.

He is very entrenched in that school because of his friends. You know kids at this age their world revolves around their friends. He doesn't want to pull out. But I feel that the school is not really suited for him judging from how he had degenerated academically as well as morally over the past 1 year.


Maybe its generation gap? I dunno really. But seeing him posting crude language and making disrespectful remarks on social media is quite hard to accept. But he says thats how teenager speaks and communicate these days!!?? He says all his friends are like this, i wonder. His grades are borderline but he says so are his friends. He dont even bother to watch TV and hardly engage in outdoor activities. If he is not on his macbook, than he is on his handphone. We restrict his access to these gadgets and he sulks and shut himself out.

Maybe it just him and not the school. Maybe I am lousy father and looking to find excuse. I dunno. Our relationship with him had distant farther and farther over the past few mths.

Traditional mainstream pen and paper supplemented with use of computers is still the way to go especially for lower secondary students.


SST is still under trial and test and have no track record of any sorts. Its a huge gamble we took to send him there so I guess we have to live with the consequences. I heard some of his classmates pulled out and transfer to mainstream school after 1 year as their parents felt the learning style not suitable for the children.

I am not sure if its too late for me to pull him out now that he is in Sec 2. sigh

I regretted sending my son to this school.


He spent all his time on the Macbook these days. Grades went down, became very insensitive and disrespectful to people around him. I have had endless heated conservations with him over the "learning device" until I now almost given up.

If your child lack the discipline to refrain from overindulgence in computer time and you dont have the time to keep watching over him/her, than better think twice about sending him/her to this school.

Mrs Lee highlighted the traffic problem this morning during the MTP for P4s . She even flashed the vehicle number of those cars that's causing the problem, well done! :salute:

Perhaps school should educate through the children and get the children to tell their parents the inconvenience they are causing to others.


Otherwise, blanket ban on cars entering school compound. Let the traffic build up and that will force them to drop kids along the road and let them exercise a bit and build their leg muscles…haha! Also, if traffic gets out of control, traffic police will be force to come in and take over.

Thanks for sharing the nice pics lizhi. My DD unfortunately can only participate as an observer due to her arm injury. She came back requesting that I take her there to try those obstacles when she recovers.


Its been a fun first week and lesson proper should start this week. She's made a few new friends and is blending in quite comfortably so far

Dun need to buy any textbooks. Notes/handout/worksheet will be issued for all subjects.

Does this advice aPply to all of us or just those from NYPS? :)[/quote]We received a letter from NYPS informing us that briefing and school tour will be held on 30th Dec. Also included in the letter are book list & stationery list as well as uniform and school bus contact details.
