Hi can I check with experienced parents/gurus here, for the 3rd language options, I see Category 1 is shown "Malay (Special Programme) [MSP] ", so just wondering, is this Malay language suitable for beginner like Chinese without any foundation knowledge? or is it more an advanced program? Since there is “special” there.
We as Chinese is thinking learning Malay is good for DS to mingle with his malay frineds in Sec school, but not sure whether it is suitable for him knowing nothing about Malay now.
Thanks a lot in advance for your advice!

RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos
Oh My Gosh:
I just bought a new Yamaha piano. The tuner called me within a week to tune my piano. As I was out of town then, I told him I will call back to arrange for the tuning when I am back. I thought piano is supposed to \"settle down\" for a couple of weeks before the first tuning? Should I call the tuner back to arrange for a tuning session or wait for the piano to \"settle down\"?
Hi Oh my gosh, in the end you also chose to buy a new one? Just curious, what's the reason you didn't consider the 1-year U1? Due to uncertain year of manufacture? -

RE: Admiralty Primary
Thanks for the info! :thankyou:
We will register our DS1 under phase 2B in Admiralty on 19/20 July which is just 11 days away. The sharing you provided is definitely useful and helps parents like us to know more about the school that we are going to put our children in.
Hope my DS1 can get in this school......little kiasu:
My 2 kids @ Admiralty now, DS in P6 & DD in P2. They enjoy their school life there . Compare to other year, P6 got a bit more home work but manageable, teacher are caring, anything u ask teacher response r quite fast. School teaching n exam papers has some standard. For CCA, may not have so many but there are enough CCA that kids can participate. I think start from P3, they have science project competition, Math, etc...I only know when ds bring back his prizes. School also support other sport player, although not official school CCA such as water polo. There is admiralty water polo boy team and play under school name and win a few prize. The team train under club. Ds also play soccer in school. I think 3 player from his soccer team selected for JCOE (Junior centre of excellence) include my ds. One of my bad exp was school uniform vendor, no uniform to attend school :siao: when my DD starting P1 :(. .... My ds is still enjoy playing although PSLE is coming...hope he can make it :xedfingers: .......Those parent look for bal study/play... can consider admiralty..... Hope these info are useful.

RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos
Oh My Gosh:
Sure I will inform you about that.
I am eyeing a 2nd hand U1 (said to be bought less than 6 mths as the expatriate is going back his country) but I am unable to check online to verify its age. Even Yamaha website does not provide serial number after 6280000 (http://usa.yamaha.com/support/finding_age_of_yamaha_piano/). Can you let me know the serial number of your new U1 piano (after you receive your new piano this Sat) so that I can do a simple extrapolation. Appreciated in advance!springwater:
Hi all friends here,
I have been reading all your posts for some time since we have planned to buy a piano for our dd who is now in 2nd term of Yamaha Junior Course. My dd is 5.5 years old but he is very interested in piano playing and can play quite well without a lot practice.
I just placed the order for a brand new Yamaha U1 at $9100 with 2 tunings, 1 bench and free piano cover. By paying with Maybank Family and Friend credit card, you will get 5% rebate in your bank statement.
Just to share with you my experience in trying to settle a piano. Initially we planned to buy a 2nd handed one after reading some of the comments in this forum since our dd is so young and we won't know how long his interest for piano playing can last. We went to see and touch some pianos in a Christofri GSS road show. They have used U1, U3, Kawai etc. On the price tag of a U1 model, it reads: $4299, 25 years. We were allowed to take a photo of the serial number of it, and we did the same for the U3 which is priced at $4999 for 25 years too. Then the next day since I went to Yamaha school together with my son for his weekly lesson, I checked with the staff about the 2nd handed piano. The staff showed me a booklet: the fact if re-conditioned Yamaha piano, in which there is a reference list with the manufacturing year and the serial number. So I checked the serial numbers of the used ones that I took photo for and wanted to confirm the serial number is real. Guess what?! It appears that both the used U1 and U3 are 43 years already! I was kind of shocked by this....... How can they cheat on the age of the piano?!
As some of the forumers here, we almost know nothing about piano. So to play safe, we finally decided to invest in a new one with a good will that it will be my son's accompany and best friend
The piano is going to arrive this Sat. Can't wait to see my son playing on it. And hope he enjoys every moment playing it. -

RE: [Woodlands] Primary Schools
Does anyone know whether other schools will have such open house for parents and students to know more about the school? Such as Admiralty Primary, Greenwood etc?
-
RE: [Woodlands] Primary Schools
Ok noted. Thanks qms!

RE: 2012 P1 Registration Exercise for 2013 In-Take
Thanks a lot, qms, for the kind reply!

RE: [Woodlands] Primary Schools
Reading from the thread ‘P1 registration exercise for 2013 intake’, got to know that kid’s kintergarden will distribute some P1 registration materials (not sure what’s inside) for parent to read. So just wondering normally when will this happen? And any parent have received it from your kid’s kintergarden?

RE: 2012 P1 Registration Exercise for 2013 In-Take
For my case, we are under 2B, the registration date is 19/20 July. As mentioned by other parents, the balloting will only be done after these 2 days, so we just go there and submit our document, right? Then on the daily statistics, we can only see how many have registered out of the total seats for 2B, rather than the take up rate since it’s not available yet, is it?
Then when and how will the school inform parents about the balloting result? Do we need to be present when balloting?
Please kindly advise. Thanks. -
RE: [Woodlands] Primary Schools
Thanks qms but can’t be so optimistic now, since it’s also stated in the letter, this year balloting is ‘possibly likely’.
Anyone knows what does that actually mean? I’m nor sure how many more PV parents compared to last year, and how many less total seats compared to last year? -
RE: [Woodlands] Primary Schools
Hi all, just to update that I received the PV certificate letter posted to my home address from Admiralty Primary school. Phase 2B, confirmed.
-
RE: [Woodlands] Primary Schools
Hi,recently I called up Admiralty Primary school to check when can I receive the PV certificate, and was told that they will not send the notificate to each parent who complete the PV, instead they will only give that to parents on the day of registration!
Oh my god! On that day only? I eagerly told her that we prefer to get the letter earlier so that at least we know we are phase 2B, otherwise how do we know?! Don’t know whether she will consider a parent’s voice…sigh…
Can any friend share how other schools do this? Thanks! -
