    • RE: All About Math Olympiad Training & Questions

      Please help me with the following two questions:

      1. What is the number of ways in which 11 identical marbles can be placed into 3 different jars such that each jar contains at least one marble ?

      2. Given that 2880 = 2 to the power 6 x 3 to the power of 2 x 5, find the number of factors of 2880, including 1 and 2880.

      TIA

If two white balls are removed from the bag, the number of black balls left will be 1/5 of the total number of balls left.How many balls arethere in the bag?

      Please help me with these following questions.

      1. At first, two warehouses A and B had a total of 10400 sacks of rice.After warehouse A has cleared 3/4 of its stock and warehouse B has cleared 3/5 of its stock, warehouse B now has 520 more sacks of rice than warehouse A. How many stacks of rice did each warehouse have at first?

      2. At first, Dick had 2/3 as many cards as Elton. After Dick bought another 8 cartoon cards and Elton lost 5 cartoon cards, Dick now has 4/5 as many cartoon cards as Elton. Find the number of cartoon cards Dick had at first ?

      TIA.

      (1) Using units and parts,
      A -> 4u
      B -> 5p

      2 parts of B -> 1 unit of A + 520
      2p -> u + 520 => p -> 1/2(u+520)

      5 parts of B + 4 units of A -> 10400
      5p + 4u -> 10400

      5(1/2(u+520)) + 4u -> 10400
      5u+ 2600 + 8u -> 20800
      13u->18200
      u->1400
      Warehouse A -> 4 x 1400= 5600
      Warehouse B -> 10400-5600 = 4800 or 4 x 1/2(1400+520) =4800

      (2) Using units and parts,
      Before,
      D->2u
      E->3u

      After D bought 8, E lost 5,
      D->4p
      E ->5p

      2u+8 = 4p
      3u-5 = 5p

      3u-5 = 5(1/4(2u+8))
      12u - 20 = 10u + 40
      2u -> 60

      Hence Dick has 60 cards at first and E has (3x30)=90 cards at first.

      :thankyou:
