RE: DSA 2014
HCI did sent a team of 4 to Hong Kong for PWMC by Po Leung Kuk. 2 students are selected from Nan Hua and Tao Nan respectively. The contest is usually held in mid July. Accommodation in Panda hotel, food, air ticket and tours of Disneyland are fully sponsored.
RI also sents a team too. It is selected from top 4 Singaporean or PR in RIPMWC.
I wasn’t aware that HCI sent one team too. Do you know the selection criteria?
From the ~TOP 52 children (Platinum) of SMOPS or less, after the training.
There is no Maths Olympiad training even if you are one of the top 20 SMOPS winners or one of the ASMOPS winners.
The selection for HONG KONG PLK is merely based on the HCI Maths camp, and it has absolutely nothing to do with SMOPS or APMOPS. Some schools do get invited for HCI Maths camp but NOT ALL GEP schools are invited.
FYI, nanyang primary was not invited. -
RE: DSA 2014
leooel:
I guess RI collected GEPs as many as possible via DSA. Their DSA standards for GEPpers and MSers are very different. Rather easy for GEPpers ,and too difficult for MSers.
Last year we did not hear of anyone from MS received CO and WL of RI in the 60~100 academically pupils of Round 2. Similiar situations had happened for 4~5 (?) years.
Don't worry, the really excellent MSers can enter RI via the finial PSLE.zeemimi:
I know there was a mainstream boy from Catholic High Primary offered CO from RI in 2011. He applied under maths domain. As far as I know he did not have the outstanding maths olympiad background - not a winner of top 30 in NMOS, top 20 in SMOPS, high distinction in RIPWMC and top 40 in APMOPS. He is not even top students from cath high, although he is from one of the top class.
At least for the last 4-5 years we haven't heard of ms getting into ri via academics. It is known fact ri prefers geppers but they can't state that in dsa cos that would make ri elitist. And so they have to open dsa to all though they have already targeted some. I thought there may be changes this year with a new principal but since he's down with cancer, I guess things will remain pretty much the same as previous years.
Ri's dsa preference eliminated quite a number of ms boys who accepted the co of other schools, who would have otherwise entered the school comfortably with their psle scores. Perhaps ri felt these are worth giving up by admitting more geppers. -

How to calculate this?
Based on first combined, yr DD will score 84%, assuming CT at 90.GiftedGem:

She did vy well for maths CT. Above 90. But this SA, only got 78!
she was totally shocked
Mine below class average for CTs
CT1 20%
CT2 20%
Maths AA 10%
SA1 50%

Hi sleepy,I'm beginning to worry for my dd. She didn't make it to any Science or Maths Olympiad. Not a prefect, not in debate school team. No extra cannon ball for DSA other than plain old result but haiz... result not that outstanding either.
Whenever I get all paranoid, my dd always remind me to 'chill, mummy, chill'
Like that, how?
Where can I gather some extra bullet (since no cannon ball) :please:
There is a Maths competition for P6 girls which is organized by RGS:
Singapore National Girls' Mathematics Competition
PM me if u need some info. -
