Star2003.. Wow!! and thanks.. few questions:

      1) Briefing and workshops? Will wait for the one that we can join our kids in class 🙂
      2) where to get model ruler?

The teacher replied to say to bring Art paper for today only. Can I check what u all do? Bring all once and for all - the crayon/water colour etc and leave that in school?
      Ji
Paulyn, hope your kid is feeling better today 🙂

I may attend the talk this sat.. Called school and they said can just drop by cos there are still seats available. Anyone knows the timing off hand now? Cos i forgot the time..
      Hi

You can buy the model ruler from stationery shop, just ask the staff.

Hi star2003.. thanks for the detailed explanation. May i know how old is your kid now? 🙂 I totally have no clue how the school operates, after your explanation, at least I have a picture on how it works and how they helping the students..

      Hi mika_ling

My girl is in P3 now but things may change as a new Principal just come on board.

It's good to attend parents briefing sessions or workshops, they will tell you how the kids will be assessed and also how the kids are being taught. There was one session in P1 that parents were invited to observe their kids in class.

For maths, need to learn Model drawing - you can also consider buying a model ruler at later part.

For English, they are using Stellar Programme - They use a \"Big Book\" to teach English- through the story/contents in the Big Book, they will learn Grammar, vocab and practise their speaking & listening skills- Interesting and fun learning method, just like in Pre-school but parents will be worried as we don't really know what they are learning 'cos there is no English text book. However, they will bring back English worksheets from school.

For Chinese, first half of the year's focus will be on HYPY, they will be tested on Chinese character writing on 2nd half of the year.

The teaching pace can be quite fast in primary school, hence, if the kids don't have good pre-school foundation, they will have some catching up to do. But most kids will be able to handle.

BTW, before the actual test, they will have mocked test, so, go through the mocked test papers when your kid bring them back. You will be able to identify their weak areas, if any.

      Hope these info are useful.

      warm regards

      Hi morning!

      received the Parents' Notification too.

read it yesterday & filling up the forms now.

as for the art class i am not sure too. anyone can advise?

      thanks
      Hi

For Art class, it's good to have a art bag and to put drawing block (actually just a few sheets of drawing papers will do -not so heavy), poster/water colours, brushes, palette, colour pencils/crayons, apron, cloth (to dry the brushes, palette etc..), can also include a small cup to hold water/ clean the brushes. It's good to have a pair of scissors too.

      hi all

Ya, we also received the chinese 听写。 More for hanyu pinyin..

Wonder what is the progress for other subjects.. Any mummy can share the study route of the lasallians?

They will have show & tell (English & MT)- (the kids will be stressed and nervous and the parents stressed too as need to help them to write the script and prepare for the Show & Tell), project work (to be done in school but parents must help to print out photos, pictures etc). P1 students are expected to write 60 words passage in English for picture composition(with helping words provided). Kids who are very weak in English will attend the \"Rainbow Class\" so as to help them to build their foundation in English. After they have shown improvement, they will go back to their own class for English.

For Maths, will have some challenging questions-DLS's math standard is high. Must build good foundation in P1 to grasp the Math concepts, if not, will have problem in P2 'cos the math concepts remain the same, just that, the numbers go higher. If English is no good, may have difficulty to understand the Maths questions as some questions can be pretty tricky. Hence, must brush up English first.

In the past, after term 1, the kids will go to different classes for MT depending on their ability. At year end, if they are good in Chinese (other subjects must be good too), they will have an option to opt for Higher Chinese in P2. They will get to learn more in Higher Chinese class but they still take the same test/exam as those taking Normal Chinese.

There will be e-learning days too and the kids need not go to school but parents must stay at home to help them.

Anyway, holistic assessment throughout the year- there will be many tests (Each 5 marks, 10 marks etc..) & will be counted in the report book.
