RE: 2017 P1 Registration Exercise for 2018 In-Take
Lexy:
So nice! I don't have
we have a very good grandparent to help us send the kids back from schoolstardust25:
We are about the same distance away. So Lexy, how do you arrange for transport in the pm? Schoolber? From what I understand, ATS does not provide bus transport to my side of the island. In any case, school bus is not my preferred option for such a long journey though my girl is perfectly happy taking the school bus to her kindy now. If confirm to go ahead with ATS, we will likely try out the daily commute first and if necessary, relocate.

zac's mum:
Thanks, zac's mumIf she is introverted then definitely 1-on-1 lessons would be better (speaking as an introvert myself).
I can't help u with recommendations though - my semi-extroverted boy is taking group lessons & loves the group dynamics. The coach with organize friendly races sometimes. A patient coach will help with overcoming the fear of water. My boy was terrified of water initially but was slowly & patiently persuaded by the coach to join the other kids in the water. Introverts will need a different reason to enjoy the water. Maybe a trial lesson will help you gauge the rapport between the coach & your girl.

I also came from a neighbourhood primary school. Currently my kidβs school is more 12km from my home. Itβs still a hard work to wake up evey morning to send him to school, we also arrange someone to send him back. My kid, sleep during the car ride (everyday!) so to me, he wakes up the latest in school. Logistics is never easy but it depends on how your kid cope with it. I feel happier than the kids during school holidays as I also have sleep holidays!
Itβs no harm to bring your kid along and get a feel of the school while you also can find out more if you visit the school.[/quote]

RE: All About Recreational Swimming
Wondering if I should get 6-yo DD to go for group or 1-1 swimming lessons if she is rather apprehensive around water.
Also welcome recommendations for patient and encouraging accredited female instructor who is good with introverted kids at Bukit Merah/ Telok Blangah area. Will have access to condo pool. Not so concerned about certifications; focus is on water safety and for DD to benefit from swimming in general. TIA!

Lexy:
Wah Lexy, you are great! Tks.
The traditionally balloting schools (2 of them) in the area you stayed in should be balloting within 1km this year. The girls school you also looking at is fine under 2C. Chances for the other schools apart from the 2 schools are fine as well.stardust25:
Thanks Lexy and Galaxyrider.
Actually my considerations go beyond the Phases (and am still procrastinating at this 11th hour). The chances of getting my gal into Ai Tong through Phase 2A1 is high. However, it is very far from home. So I am still adopting a wait and see attitude in case I need to make a \"life-changing\" decision in Phase 2C. But from the looks of it, I also don't dare to play play in Phase 2C - the schools of my choice typically need balloting even for those living within 1km.
Counting down to tmr!
You have to make the decision later on the distance versus alma mater of your DH.
I shortlisted the girls school (CHIJ Kellock) precisely cos the 2 schools within 1km usually need to ballot. Kellock is still within 2km but much much nearer than Ai Tong (ATS) and I kind of like what it can offer in terms of holistic development; at least from reading its website.
Frankly, I came from a neighbourhood primary school and did pretty ok in life, haha, so I am not brand conscious. But hubby swears by his alma mater and is committed to the ferrying duties. Between an almost guaranteed place in ATS and near-certain balloting in the 1km schools, I have very little impetus to argue otherwise apart from the distance (which I must admit is a a huge consideration for me still).
Anyway, not sure how true, but I heard ATS isn't stressful at least for P1 - this is from a friend who has a boy in ATS and enrolling her girl this year. I have yet to hear from any parents with kids in ATS from this forum though. Happy to hear any views on ATS! :rahrah: -

Yes, I am staying in the area.. and have just signed up for the open house on 12 July.
Nice! -
RE: [Bukit Merah] Primary Schools
Keen to find out more about CHIJ Kellock as well as it's one of the schools in my list.

Renham, there is an open house for parents at CHIJ Kellock on 12 Jul; according to the school website. Are you staying in Bukit Merah/ Telok Blangah area? -
RE: 2017 P1 Registration Exercise for 2018 In-Take
Lexy:
Phase 1 day 1 number is higher than last year but still lower than 2015. Need day 2 to close to have a slightly better picture.stardust25:
Need advice on Phase 2A1 as am first time going through this baptism of fire :yikes:
Will be registering my gal under Phase 2A1 and was informed by alumni office that the time of registration (i.e. morning or afternoon) does not matter in terms of priority. My questions are:-
1) What will be the considerations if balloting is required Eg. SC, distance from school or really all put in ballot box?
2) How will parents be informed if a ballot is required at the end of the day on 5 Jul?
3) How will parents be informed of the results on 7 Jul?
Really grateful if parents with past experience can advise :rahrah:
For each phase, if the total applicant number is more than the available slots, then the ballot will happen, this is most impt data you first i think. If oversubscribe, SC will first get (meaning getting the total number of SC applied is important), if that is not enough then distance play a part (split of the applicants with distance). Unless you have 2 school of choice in 2A1, it is unlikely anyone will withdraw at this time. Later phases will be your backup option but i think its best to end the registration process at 2A1 and prepare for school!
All the best.
Thanks Lexy and Galaxyrider.
