MdmGiveup, I am glad that the school finally take action against your child teacher. I guess it really needs a lot of writing to get the school listen to the real concern of the parents.

Like you, I also have a child in P6. I don’t have much complain about the school in general. Most of the school teachers are alright except for some black sheep.
I have always likes the MT teachers in the school. They are very responsible, diligent and competent in teaching the children. However, my view has totally changed after my child enters P6 this year.
My child MT teacher has been teaching in the school for many years but all these while he has not taken P6 class till last year. My child class is probably the 2nd batch of P6 he has taken charge in the school.
My child has had good MT teachers all these years. The teachers would always give sufficient homework and mark them promptly. They would also provide and explain the correct answers for all the practices. On top of that they always provide constructive comments or suggested correction for compo.
This year is the first time my child has not much MT homework and she is in P6. In term 1, I thought that the teacher did not want to stress the students too much that is why not much homework. However, in term 2, the amount of homework did not increase. I have not problem with little homework as I also believe that quality is more important than quantity. What I am more concerned with is that this teacher does not really explain to the students the correct answers for practices but merely get them to copy the correct answers.
The way he marked compo is even more unbelievable. I got a big shock when my child came home with the “marked” compo. He simply just correct a few wrong Chinese characters and underlined sentences that were not well constructed but with no suggested sentences or comments given. He told the class that those with 5 or less wrong Chinese characters will not have to do correction :skeptical:. I am not sure how the students can improve their compo writing if the teacher does not give suggested sentences or constructive comments for correction.
On top of his incompetent in teaching, he is also a violent teacher. Since the beginning of this year, my child had come home to tell me about his misdeeds (throwing of student files on the floor when students did not complete homework or banged student tables when they were too noisy). I understand that sometimes teachers do get upset when students misbehave. So I just brushed off my child's complaints all these while. However, near the end of term 2, my child came home and told me that the MT teacher forceful push one of the boy classmate against the cupboard just because the boy forgot to bring his file for submission. I cannot condone such behave for an educator no matter how upset he was with that student.
I met some of my girl classmates’ mums during the recently, they were very concerned that the MT teacher is not doing a good job and behave so violently in class. They hope that the school can change the MT teacher but yet do not know how to go about complaining to the school. They are also afraid that if they complain to the school and if the MT teacher is not replaced, their kids will be “marked” by him. :nailbite:
I am doubtful about the competency of this MT teacher in teaching P6 classes which is the most crucial year for the students. I hope that the school can seriously look into replacing him as PSLE is drawing.

      ericath,

The new guideline given by MOE for P1 is not to have examination and little homework. Due to these reasons some parents view that it is quite relaxing for P1. Despite, no formal exam, there is some form of informal testing carry out by the teachers. However, the testing might not necessary be accurate as some kids might not be paying attention in class and teachers thought that they are not able to accomplish certain tasks.
I personally feel that P1 & P2 are very important years for foundation building. You should make sure that you teach your kids basic grammar rules and reinforcement maths concept taught in school and read lot of books with your kids. I realized from my experience the school does not really teach the kids grammar in P1. However, pls do not stress your child to do lot of assessment books. Make your child learning journey a pleasant one by being a proactive parent 🙂
