RE: JEI/PSLE Math - Discussion
Mama_ambitious:
Hi dear mama, Can you confirm that there are tests/assessments in PSLE Maths?Hi, I have some experience with Jei math and can share.
My son in k2 now, almost a year with them and I find that it was a perfect fit for him. They focus on both mathematical as these are foundation years and developing a sense for problem sums.
They have a systematic step by step approach. It's a class format yet caters for each child. For foundation years, it's crucial for the kids weaknesses to be focused on, instead of just doing class worksheets on the board for 10 to 12 kids.
Maybe higher levels that would work!
But for kindergarten and lower primary I think it's an added advantage to have a class size of 6. The teachers are dedicated and will ensure the kids get the concept before moving on.
Plus its interactive too. For example, for topic on mony, they are going the extra mile to do a shop activity day to practice real life !!
My son has benefitted from this centre n it's a steal for that cost and a full 2 hour session.
They also do tests around school time and based on marking the papers, go back n focus on those areas with the kids individually that they have got wrong. Not just marking papers and asking to do corrections and giving stickers etc. n that ends there.
So I think it's a place that cares for kids. To top it all, the teacher will give individual ONE to ONE feedback for each KID to parent so parent can focus on it at home in specifics!!
I'm a working mom, so I call after each class to give feedback an if teacher is busy she will conscientiously call back n entertain on HP too!
Tough to find Such a high level of service these days!!
Cos they told me and another parent confirmed that there are no tests in PSLE Maths just move from topic to topic :? -
RE: [Marine Parade] Primary Schools
sunshine8:
Maybe I was not been clear. My friend said that the P for the school is still the same.Hi sweetbaby,
So do you mean the outgoing principal is good?
Thanks
The VP got changed to a new one.
According to friends, the new combination (P n New VP) is still not effective..I.e. friend said that there is not much difference with the old combination(P n old VP).
Friends expected that if any changes should be made..changes should be made for the better n not status quo (unchanged) or worse.
Comparison to the neighbor MP school is inevitable since positive changes were observed there with the changes made.
(Like my friends said, this is their own personal views. But P n VP n teachers are extremely important to make or break a school).. -

Should be clearer..meant VP change from this year.
I asked n it seems like they are not so fantastic news about this principal. I have friends from TKPS n they are wondering why there is a switch of principal (to someone not that good than previous)..unlike their other MP neighbor school where the change was for the better...of course no offence intended-this is just the Frank n personal opinions of my friends in the school. Personally for myself quality of principal n teachers are of extreme importance:)sunshine8:
Hi Parents,
Does anyone know how's the leadership of the current principal at Tanjong Katong Primary?
Thanks! -

RE: Learning Point - Discussion
Ran1977:
I agree 200%.
I agree. LP standard is very high. I see that in my son's English and Maths worksheets that he brings back (especially of the Maths worksheets where they are lots of tricky questions, high order thinking questions). It is true that you need a good foundation before you enrol in LP.shaz:
Quite amused to see some postings singing praises fm enthusiastic parents who do not even hv kids with lp. That made me wants to share my views too.
Both my dc started with RFS at K1 and eventually added Maths and science with lp. Withdrew dd from all classes mid P4. Ds is in P3. Have withdrawn him from Maths and stopping science after this term. Will be continuing with English. To cut a long story short, these are my views of lp
- as with all schools & enrichment centres, there will always be some fantastic teachers and some not so fantastic ones. Both dc has had their shares of teachers they adore to teachers they do not like thru the yrs there. I would prefer if teachers can stay with kids as they progress so they know the strengths & weaknesses of their students
- find the materials for eng & Maths good. Science materials standard too high. (My opinion) My dc are always failing their papers at lp even though science is one of dd strongest subject.
- over the more than 5 yrs that dc were there, I think the course fees increased like thrice and I think they r increasing it again next yr. At that price, I wud rather pay the same for ex/existing/retired teachers. (Managed to find teachers for my dd who fall into the said categories)
- reason why my ds in continuing with eng: a case where same teacher followed thru since p2 who is very encouraging and dedicated. Hv confirmed that she will be continuing with the same class next yr. Ds looks forward to her classes and that is important to me
To conclude- lp is overall quite a good enrichment centre. BUT a good and highly rated enrichment centre may not be the best for your child. As lp is an enrichment centre, their materials are pitched at a higher standard. May not be suitable for kids whose foundation is not there yet. Finding the right tutor / centre needs some trial & error sometimes.
LP standard is very high.
Thus, parents should carefully consider before signing up for any of their subjects - be it English, Maths or Science. Some kids cannot take the pressure and may break down during the lessons if they cannot cope with the high standard (my friend's son told me that his friend student cried during the Maths LP lessons as he didn't know how to do the questions). :yikes:
Thus, parents - a piece of advice before jumping in and paying so much for your kids lessons at LP-please analyse your kid first and their personality. If you think that they cannot perform under a pressure cooker environment (what LP is) - please please don't put your child in LP.
It is better not to follow the crowd (be it for 1 term, 2 terms or even 1 year) as a child's self esteem and self confidence once broken and shattered is very, very difficult to repair and mend. You yourself know your child the best. :imdrowning:
