Beatrice, yes agree! No worries I just mean they do seem to change areas that need to improve, and not those that's already working well. We're actually happy they try to keep it that way, coz we're already happy with the standard and curriculum... All these yrs my kids v good teachers, so feel quite lucky. I've heard horror stories from frens with kids at other kindys...


Hi nficewine! Yah I know what you mean abt the Mandarin standards so difficult I think can't be help becoz have to prepare our kids for primary school. I hear the P2 Chinese standard is set so high by MOE, so we got no choice but push our kids now otherwise they sure to suffer in primary school... So I just send my DC for extra Chinese tuition classes... I think if by the time K2 if still cannot write simple words like\"you, me, him, no...\" then must definitely already go for tuition class otherwise BIG trouble when go to primary sch.

Hi hi! Beatrice_NoQ depends how old is your kid, the kindy classes have time for quiet reading in the school library 1-2 per week (also when raining and can't go to playground).


As for the lesson plans being \"recycled\", personally my kids all went to GUG, and honestly we never experienced that at all... I think if always same-same then my frens and I will have withdrawn long ago! But seriously from Babes to K2 my kids never experienced any repetition. The only thing is the lessons for every level don't change so much. Example when my ds attended Babes, the activities all different. Then when my dd joins the Babes classes following yr, she will do the same activities as what my ds did when he was attending the babes classes. But now he's attending Tots level so it's all different for him again. My dd don't mind becos all the babes lessons are new to her too. That's the best I can explain it haha!

But it's true their teachers don't come up with the lessons. My understanding is all these years the Founder or MD is the one who writes the lessons because she's qualified as a curriculum specialist, and the teachers are considered qualified to deliver/teach the lessons. We see changes more so at kindy levels, like the MD recently came up with readers & workbooks, which must say are v gd. I think their attitude is basically \"if it's good then better don't fix it\"

We're very glad to have sent our kids to GUG kindergarten. They're not just strong in teaching the academics but also increase self-confidence and general knowledge. Without a doubt I'd say they prepare students very well for Primary schooling and life skills. Personally we had no issues with male cleaners but thought they were professional and standards of hygiene kept very high. In addition to English and Science which are the school's forte, since 2 years ago there's been a lot emphasis on Maths and we're v happy with the Mandarin curriculum too. All in all, excellent kindergarten! I also think a testament to how good a school is when their classes are almost always full. My nephews tried to enroll in their N2 and K1 classes for next yr but unfortunately long waitlist! Before today, I would strongly recommend this school, but after today..nah... my kid is in N2 this year (she had her N1 & weekend enrichment at GUG last year) and there were more than 14 kids in the class, a big difference in last year's class of 8 kids to 2 teachers for the N2.

The scenerio is just like any PCF class. with such changes, they can forget about any GEP students or watsoever in future. And where can I source for another school with AM slots at such last min. Hi hi, i think don't worry too much as this happens everywhere even the best of schools The 1st week esp 1st day always more unsettling since the students hv just returned from hols plus new students, and teachers need to get the class familiar with new routine etc. All usually settles down in a few days. Btw my kids had the max 15 or 16 in their classes. That's the problem with AM sessions, too popular! :roll:

Aside from GEP, the MD also said that over the past years, more than 94% of their students rank in the top 10 of their P1 class.
Well personally, GEP or not, I think just having seen my 2 kids improve so much during their time in GUG’s kindergarten have made me very thankful to the school. Especially in their reading, writing, maths, and self-confidence. I areally like their curriculum. My kids have learned a lot about inspiring leaders, natural calamities, environmental issues, anger management, science experiments, and even topics like genetics and sex education!! So I think aside from just academic skills, the general knowledge that the school has imparted to my kids have definitely given them a love for learning and very good foundation beyond P1.

It was the MD's speech during the K2 graduation event last month. Oh, sorry to hear the VP left a cold impression.. actually, my own experience all these years has been that they're all very warm and helpful, from teachers to principal and directors. Maybe you can schedule to meet the principal Vidier instead and she can show you some samples? Anyway, just my 2 cents worth: My colleagues and I did quite a lot of research going around other reputable kindergartens and compared notes with friends before signing up our kids at GUG, haha So far we def feel we made the right decision and very impressed with the school's quality and standard (including their worksheets and workbooks). I highly recommend GUG's kindergarten. My 2 kids REALLY benefited, elder one already graduated from their K2. Agree with other parents that their students are very well prepared for P1, some say too well-prepared haha Heard the school's latest report is 1 out of 4 students got into GEP since they started operations. Impressive considering every yr only 500 out of 10,000 P3 kids get into GEP! I think they post GUG kindy parents' testimonials on their website so maybe you can check that out..

Can see my earlier comments. Have friends w kids in GUG mountbatten and so far they all have very good feedback. From my own experience, there's difference starting child at 1 yr old and younger. They seem to pick up phonics, English/Mandarin language, counting and other motor skills faster, either from participating or even just observing in class. My own kids started ard 9 mths old @ GUG and must admit they both benefited a lot from early start. Every child is different, so it's best you visit the school and go for a trial class
