im not judging but honestly as a parent myself, i dont want to pressure my child academically.
Hello parents. I think i am going to go crazy due to anxiety. My child will be attending P1 next year and i felt that he might struggle academically in school. Though he is in kindy, personally i think it may not be enough to pull him through P1. In kindy, they are still learning phonics at P1. To \"catch-up\" with my perception of the school's norm, i sent him for supplementary classes since K1. His learning curve is not steep, but he can read (slow though) but can't spell very well. As for chinese, he can recognise some words but not write. As for Maths, he can count and do simple addition.
Can any kind soul share with me if the school expects the child to be able to read fluently, spell and write in both languages? I am seriously considering pulling him out from these supplementary classes (IP subjects) and putting him in classes that he likes like art. If he is not on the right track, guess he has to continue with those supp classes. Headache...
I'd rather build my child holistically and internally from the character building.
there are too many traits for a child to learn esp life-skills which will be used for lifetime rather than academic matter.
each child grows at their own pace uniquely. why we want to pressure them so much?
let them grow to what they could at their own time. they will grow and catch up academically when they are ready.
life skills as simple as table manner, know how to queue patiently, greet everyone respectfully, being respectful to everyone regardless age and gender or designation, problem solving, taking turn, talk respectfully and appropriately with everyone instead of saying nowadays words as simple as What the heck or those rude words but seem common and normal, self respect and self worth amd the list goes on.
that is much more important to build a kid to be a descent human being in the future.
now back to parents, alot of times we forget we are the parents of our own kids after all.
what is the duty of parents?
to nurture and educate our kids 24 hours a day 7 days a week regardless we send our kid to school or not.
have we done enough of our duties as parents or we give that duties to someone else and accusing others not competent when they dont meet our expectations where we dont even do our duties to begin with?.
this is for myself reflection everytime i feel frustated to my DD. she has been having occupational therapy with KK and reading class at her CC.
i myself as parent never even imagined i would have special needs kid. but i can assure u that my kid is able to catch up with her peers academically at K2 now because she is just ready on her own. i dont give her pressure to be able as what her pees could.
i spend at least 30 minutes almost daily to read with her before bed time. spend to train her to write.
non stop teaching her manners coz i want her to grow up knowing manner, self respect, honesty and hard work will bring her far. -

How come noone advise on teaching kids to take ownership of their belongings, eg, water bottle, stationery etc? I went to a PTM and overheard a parent complaining to teacher that her child kept losing this and that...like it's the 'cher's fault!
this is absolutely parents' fault. i have experienced this is my girl's cc where the kid forgot to bring back her water bottle home and the mother gave a good 20 minutes talk
to teacher for not reminding the girl etc etc while she herself was hogging the door for other kids to leave the cc.
good grieve this kind of parents.
teachers are not maid not helper. teachers are to teach your kid. -

Hi taniari,
I will be registering my DD here later. Did the school put up a monitor with the breakdown of the statistics eg SC within 1km, 1-2km etc ? -
