I attended the talk at SJI this past weekend. The principal mentioned that it is very common for parents to apply to VS, RI, ACSI, HCI in addition to SJI. He did not say they would not give a CO to students who also applied to one of these other schools but asked for parents to be considerate and call SJI to let them know ASAP if they decided to take up the CO from RI/VS/ACSI/HCI. He explained that getting a CO means your child will be guaranteed a place at the school and parents do not need to fear this place will be given to someone else (unless your child scores 23 points or higher). He has a long waitlist every year and if parents can call to let them know their DS are going to RI/HCI/ACSI/VS, then they can give the CO to someone else on the waitlist sooner.
Thanks

For SJI Visual Art DSA, after MOE portal closes, school will send follow-up email to all the applicants (regardless of grades), to request submission of portfolio:

1) Folder A: 10 artworks showing observational strengths (applicant may submit artworks achieving realism and details of varying mediums such as 2D pencil drawings or digital illustration, 3D sculptures, etc)

2) Folder B: 5-10 artworks showing creativity and imagination (applicant may submit artworks that show original ideas developed in varying mediums such as short animations, 2D storyboards, etc)

After they evaluate the portfolio, they will invite their selected ones for a drawing test. Not sure whether got interview or not.
Thanks again Zac's mum. Any others have experience in NJC and RI DSA art? Would there be any disadvantage of my opportunities in NJC and SJI DSA art if I also apply RI DSA art? Would NJC and/or SJI consider that we are not sincere about the application as RI is also in the DSA art list? Thanks!

Thanks so much for the inputs to my questions. So for SJI, need to submit a total of minimal 15 art pieces as such?

• RE: DSA 2024

Hi parents, can share experience on DSA art application for RI (visual arts) NJC (art elective), SJI (visual art) and VS (art elective)?

1) What credentials each school is looking at for P5/P6 results? My son’s school dont have WA1 for P6 but non-weighted test - will this count as well?
2) What to take note of application submission for each school? Any specific area we shall make sure we highlight in the submission?
3) For those shortlisted for interviews, what AL were in P5? What questions and art works (what are the topics of drawings tests) required during interview for each school

Thanks

...

The correct answer.

Then u need to station 3 separate people at the 3 schools to check the stats in the afternoon, so hectic?? Better way is to make a decision once the morning session has closed.
Yes going to be hectic...may still want to go for ballot for APS as it's really close to home and convenient for us unless the stats is really odd in the morning.

Anyone has the experience of registering on site? How long will the process take? I'm thinking that I need to allow sufficient time to travel from one school to the other.

If I decide to go ballot for APS/RVPS, might need to station at Queenstown PS also as I'm also worried that there are not much spaces left for 2CS.

Any further views?

• RE: Alexandra Primary

Hi all, need your advice of the followings:

There are few choices of schools in my area and we are SC under 2C phase:

1. Alexandra PS (5mins walking distance) - preferred but understand that balloting might be required for SC<1km

2. Zhangde PS (~0.85km) - need balloting for SC<2km? Need to take bus there, also there are locations where no shelters. problematic if raining. For Zhangde, I heard some negative feedback from some existing parents…so not sure if it’s just for a particular teacher. Any comments for ZD?

3. RVPS (~1.4km) - need to take bus and there might be balloting for SC<2km. But the bus ride will be along my way to work.
Our main choice of criteria is actually close to home, regardless the rating of school, as we are working parents and totally rely on helper for the kids. Since APS is so close to home, our current view is that we may go for APS first to participating the balloting. If we fail, our backup choice might be Queenstwoon PS (<2km) but not sure if there are still places left for 2CS due to dragon babies.

Another choice is we keep monitoring of the registration rates of APS, RVPS and ZD on the day, and decide on the day to choose a safer option.

Your comments would be much appreciated.
