I have 2 boys in ACSI. In the school, IB refers to the Year 5 and Year 6. The building for the Y5 and 6, are separated from the Y1 to Y4. As for CCAs, the Y1 to Y4 train together, regardless of whether they are on o’level or IP track.

because this is very rude, very un-gracious, very unkind, mean, of a 12 year old behavior of a boy, who selfishly blocked other students' from giving a proper reply (answer), before his turn come. Just because he want to get ahead of others, by \"chiong\" to answer first, dis-regard other people feeling, blocked or prevent other people from answering. It is not a matter of whether he is just 12 year old, or not.I guess the school had to weigh his portfolio against his maturity. Maybe school feel is just a 12yo mentality to be competitive? It depends on the interviewers mindset. I don't know the boy enough to know if he was offered.
this is not a situation nora test whereby in a quiz competition, whoever first pressed the bell will get to answer a question first, posed by organizer. This is different. This is a group interview setting, where everyone will have their turn, to answer the question. Just be patient, wait for your turn[/quote]My boy went for his dsa interview last year. He cleared the interview n got a CO plus an invitation for the scholarship interview. He shared his strategy for his group interview was to let others go first n listened to what they had to say. This bought him more time to think n if he couldn't, he could improve on his peers'. In fact, he said his group had fun during the interview.
Anyway we told him to treat dsa interview as an opportunity to find out if he was really suitable for the school or if the school was suitable for him. Have fun n not to be too stressed, machiam matchmaking. -

Raffles institution and NJC for VA
zac's mum:
I don’t know (apart from SOTA for Visual Artaccamm13:
Hi, any idea which schools can DSA for strengths in Visual Arts, Robotics, and Coding?
But I came across this when I did a search for “DSA coding/robotics”. Preferred qualifications for applicants to Maris Stella High (Secondary):
(ii) Robotics Club:
-Experience in either C++ or Python Programming
- Participated in NJRC/FLL/WRG/APYRC or other international/national robotics competitions and obtained a good standing in either the main or side events.
Link is here: https://marisstellahigh.moe.edu.sg/admission/secondary/direct-school-admission-dsa
For other schools, go check on their school website. But most schools have removed their last year DSA page. This year’s one not updated yet (for most schools). -
RE: DSA 2019
He did attend art lessons since 4 years old. We did not specifically send him for art lessons just to prepare his portfolio. It’s just that he enjoys painting.
Beside art pieces, he is also required to submit sketchbooks. The sketchbooks are based on all the random pieces he did , like trying out an artwork after watching YouTube, his doodles and sketches. The sketchbooks shouldn’t be difficult for kids who like art as they will definitely be painting, creating n doodling on their own naturally. -
RE: DSA 2019
Yes. He applied with his VA portfolio for VA domain.

And for SOTA, it was stated in the offer letter that child must be eligible for express stream, no specific cop, just be able to get into express.

RE: DSA 2019
Not for SOTA. My boy got a CO last year. He did not join art club in his primary school years. He was in performing arts CCA. Think the passion, portfolio, interview and performance during talent acad are more important.

RE: COP 2018
For some students, having more checkpoints would do them good. We should not say one course is better than another. We should consider the child’s needs and choose what is a good fit for them.

RE: COP 2018
Personally I am for O level which offers more opportunities for a student who could then choose to go IB, A level or poly. Students in IP have only one option. My older boy is from an IP school. His principal told us frankly that students who did O level and then IB performed better in IB as they have developed the grit and experience in preparing for an important exam while they were doing their o level. As for IP students, there are a small percentage who couldn’t catch up due to over reliance on tuition when they were in primary school and found not having the time to go for additional help in sec sch. Worse, some failed to perform due to game n social media addiction.
