Hi, can i check is the teacher's day celebration is Tomorrow? Is it full day or half day?

      Hi ptsy27,
I am a fellow parent of WSP. I hope you don't mind me trying to help. The celebration and school day will finish at the normal time of 130pm. Parents who have registered for the event will only be allowed to enter the school to attend the event. Friday 4 september is a holiday.

Please do call the school or ask the school any questions on the mconline forum if you would like to have a direct reply from the school.

      Thanks πŸ˜„

Can I know where can i find my child oncoming test dates?I ask the form teacher and he say i can find on MC online......but i can't find it

      Hi Ben2112,
If you don't mind a fellow parent trying to help you, I will do my best to talk you through the different stages.

      Parents login for mconline.
Go onto the section that states School Admin.
      Select Results Management. \"View my child's results\"
Select the result date on the calendar.

I hope it helps. I would suggest that you send the school a message on the mconline parents' forum for a reply from the school. You may also telephone the school if you have any queries. The school will reply to you on the mconline forum within 3 working days.

      Have a good evening,

      From a fellow parent. πŸ˜„

      Littlebabygirlgirl:
      Hi Everyone,

I am glad that my girl has successfully enrolled into west spring pri sch and she is looking forward to joining the school! I am very happy that she likes the sch that my husband and i have chosen for her but i will also like to set her expectation correct..

The fact that she likes the school so much is because we have been sharing a lot about the school with her and always shown her the school video and photos. Generally, she likes the school but the key factor that she looks forward to is the lion dance enrichment class. She has seen the lion dance in the school photos and video. She likes lion dance since young and has always wanted to learn and be involved in this. Each time she sees the school video, she just wanted to see the lion dance portion. I am also surprised that the lion dance has outshone the lego play in school. Lego is also 1 of her fav toys at home.

I understand that the lion dance is one of the enrichment classes that the school offers. Just like to understand if the enrichment classes will change each year or they will continue with the wushu/lion dance enrichment next year. I really dont hope to disappoint my girl just because she dont get to join the lion dance class or that her opinion of the school changes just because of the lion dance. If those classes do change or lion dance class will be discontinued next yr, i hope someone can advise me early so that i can need to set her expectation correct by talking to her earlier. There are really a lot of other things that i hope she will look forward to, though it will be great if her favourite lion dance class is still available for her next yr.

      :thankyou:
      Dear Littlebabygirlgirl,
welcome to the West Spring family πŸ˜„

It is wonderful to hear that your daughter is excited about starting her new school. There will be many opportunities to experience many activities. I am sure she will enjoy every moment of West Spring life. I am sorry that I am unable to answer your question regarding the lion dance enrichment class. Once again, I am certain that your daughter will find her school days enjoyable and memorable πŸ˜„

      Hi there.

Just a quick question. I understand that the P1 Orientation Day is on 4th January 2016. How about the purchasing of school books and uniform? On the same day too? Because i noticed that most schools are having orientation on mid or end of november.
      Hi aurora07,
Once all the phases are over for p1 registration for 2016, the school will probably send out a letter or an email with all the information. You can also telephone the school to inquirer into the details

Welcome to the West Spring Family. πŸ˜„

The school has partnered with parents and students on the design and colour. It has been a very fair way of choosing the uniform and at the same time getting the school community involved in choosing the new uniform. Well done West Spring.

      bizzybee:
Thank you everyone. May I know how we can qualify for phase 2b at West Spring? Is it through PV?

      Hi bizzybee,
this is the current requirement for citizens and PR applying under phase 2b:

      Phase 2B
      (a) For a child whose parent has joined the primary school as a parent volunteer not later than 1 July 2015 and has given at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school by 30 June 2016

      (b) For a child whose parent is a member endorsed by the church/clan directly connected with the primary school

      (c) For a child whose parent is endorsed as an active community leader

I would suggest that you telephone the school to inquire into the school volunteering program.

We all look forward to welcoming you to the West Spring Family. You are making the right choice for your child's education. πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„

    • RE: West Spring Primary

I hope the below information, from the school website, will put your mind at ease regarding the play-based curriculum. πŸ˜„

Achieving Balance Between Play & Didactic Teaching

All departments follow the MOE syllabus and curriculum and lessons are taught accordingly as such. Besides using the PLAY approach to learning, students are also required to spend time attempting the exercises found in MOE prescribed textbooks/workbooks. In addition, additional worksheets are given to students to reinforce their learning. At an appropriate juncture in the students’ learning, individual desk work is also being conducted weekly for students to familiarize themselves with the pen and paper type of assessments. In short, there is a good balance between integrating PLAY in learning and conducting didactic teaching where necessary.

There’ll be more PLAY at the lower primary levels as it’s very important to get children to love learning from young. If learning lacks PLAY from young, the child might come to dislike learning when older. It’s important for children to discover the joy of learning.

At the upper primary levels, the integration of PLAY into the curriculum will be reduced proportionately but not totally as current research has shown that children , and even adults, need some PLAY whilst learning. Do visit our website gallery to read up on the research findings published in the Straits Times last year. We’ve also done research to further verify that PLAY does indeed help children learn better.

At the P5 & P6 levels, we’ll also start to prepare the children for the PSLE through conventional teaching, interspersed with the occasional PLAY, to still make learning for PSLE meaningful and a joy.
