      Hi ter_wen,

We are travelling late Dec. Mainly Miaoli, Taichung and Nantou. Our last stop is also Taipei. Although it is my first trip to Taiwan, not intending to go CingJing (afraid too cold) and Sun Moon Lake too. Btw, for Sun Moon Lake, where did you go the last time?

Had a hard time looking for accommodation in Taipei that are not too expensive and around the main station. Was beginning to get worried. But over the weekend, finally managed to find one for 3 pax. Last room.

For minus/hotel and driver, I browse through this thread, Trip Advisor and sometimes Hardzone. And also driver's suggestions.
      Hi melodyrain2,
For SML, we drove around the lake. can't rem if we did go 1 full round though. we walked the village there to see them selling the assam tea, souvenirs and food and then we went off to stay at Puli.
Just to share, CingJing was not too cold. Cold winds but manageable with sun. It he huan shan that's cold with rain and wind.

      Hi ter_wen!

Wulai is severely damaged by the super Typhoon Soudelor in August, hence would not advise you to visit there at this juncture of time. If you wish to experience hot spring, you may want to consider 宜兰礁溪 or simply 北投 instead.

Would advise that you start looking/booking your accommodation as December is quite a peak period, and may have difficulty finding a family room. Some popular hotels/minsu might have already been taken up as early as 6 months ago.
      Hi Gisten.
thks! I didn't know about Wulai. Hope to get the rooms and driver settled by this week.
but then have to split myself for kids' SA2 revision and other family matters. haiz.

am afraid may not have time to browse Trip Advisor lei.
do let me know if u have other ideas to share.
hb also intend to drive so am thinking where to drive and where not to drive - probably taipei but worried my mama cannot cope taking public transport.

      假如有老少咸宜的活动请让我知道。
      先谢了!

when preparing for war during normal days, u don't know how good/well-prepared u are until u fight the war..

after war, we need to know, analyse & learn from our mistakes, then can try to prevent same mistakes from happening for next war la..

for compo, there are a few components, language, content, grammar etc, kids may write beautifully during normal days without exam pressure, but quite a number have loads of spelling/grammar mistakes, inappropriate usage of phrases, abrupt development of story etc..
thus I think it's important to see what is being written during exam..to genuinely help the kids improve..
      this logic simple enough??
my son got story ideas. but his cl language got problem.. like a potato kid.
can't string his sentences well, and also his cl vocab is not strong.
I'm partially responsible cos i have not been hardworking enough to drill him.

      Giggler1:

Steadyberry, my dd having similar situation. All her teachers take lots mc or on course since P1. When I talked to P about my concerns, she made me feel that it's my dd's misfortune to have such FT. So I got no choice but to engage tutors for her. But her results didn't improve with tuitions also. Now I am loss on how to help her already.

Giggler1, I was  when I saw my ds CL mark.

Ca1 was tested up to ch 5 & teacher taught till ch 3 only. I thought he was just a bit slow, will definitely catch up by sa1. sa1 was tested up to ch 11 & he was at ch 9. My friend taught her dd ch 10 & 11 herself. I was helpless as I am CL illiterate. More than half the class failed hcl. I didn't even care about hcl but CL was also affected. The teacher was supposed to teach 5 days of hcl & they stay back 1 day
for CL. But he didn't. Spent 1/2 of the time in class story telling. Workbook also didn't complete because he hasn't even
      taught yet.

Now, I feel like :imdrowning: . I can totally understand how you feel. This year is a crucial year. My ds is attending a cl group tuition once a
week. I do not know what else I can do to help him. Both of us are really at a loss. 😢

how can the teacher not teach until where the exam is tested.
this really can complain to school. 😕

      EatNonStop:
Having 30+ students to 1 teacher, how much quantity and quality time the teacher can spend on each student? I always doubt this.....

Just look at science subject, text book content is so minimal you cant depend on this alone to really grab the concept and understanding....thats why tution centers are so popular and so many assessment/guide books in the market.
For parents in current era, we have no choice but to invest time to self learn (refer to the parents guide books most mummies are recommending, digest it and pick up key concept), fully understand the school syllabus / subjects / test format etc inorder to fill up some gaps or doubts our kids have... At least, in their hearts they always have \"someone' to guide or to seek consult i.e. Parents
agree. and my kids are amused when they see me reading their textbooks.

      Can anyone help?
      i3mum:

      Hi,

I am looking for a 1 night stay at Ryokan in either Tokyo or Osaka with my family. I am also considering if to stay near Mt Fuji bcos of the nice scenery. Does anyone has any recommendation?

My plan is Tokyo->Ryokan Stay (maybe at Mt Fuji)? -> Osaka.

Is it troublesome to travel from Tokyo (Shinjuku) to Mt Fuji and we leave there for Osaka? Or should we just do a day trip thing to Mt Fuji?

Is it dangerous due to earthquake? We are planning for Dec trip.

      Thank you!

      hi i3mum,

here is the access guide to Mt Fuji.
      http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6905.html

from Mt Fuji to Osaka, I think there is a direct bus but think u gotta call the Japanese phone number to book. I can't find the email.
      http://mtfuji-jp.com/directions/train

as for stay in Mount Fuji area, maybe u can try searching around Kawaguchiko, which seems to be the more established base before the climbers go up.

      hth,
      wendy
