I don't agree with this conventional thinking about PV. Of course, you have your view, and I had already stated the reasons behind mine. I have given this a lot of thought, and the 'face value' explanation you have put above does not cut it for me.

Why school does not spelt out PV requirements in the first place ?
PV system should be transparent as much as possible (ie if the school ultimately decided to select the person, then make the outcome transparent), otherwise how to convince the public from not speculating.

We all know or heard about small kids started training at tender age for Omlypics, isn't it ? and we streaming at P3 or P4 - how close are we to entrance exam for Primary school ???

Current system works the way it is intended to, only lacking transparency in PV - cos Principal have the sole authority on deciding who will be choosen but then how can we ensure 100% compliance ??? Tranparency is needed in order for accountability to set in.

I believe the system created what it is intended for (or at least what our leaders think how the system should work and what outcome should be generated).


If you are not part of the puzzle (ie prior to P2B) then adequate opportunity to get into P2B (GRL, Clan, PV). However, some serious thoughts must be given to PV route. The interest of Principal is to choose "the brightest parent/child" to help increase school academic rating (no doubt) but so often the selection procedure is not transparent.

It does not really bother me if highly educated parents choose to perform mundane duties but I believe the school MUST make these info public and if it can withstand public srcutinise, then be it.

Otherwise, possibility another saga in the making…Charity saga, YOG…etc.

Fair enough that different schools may have different specific requirements hence will take this into careful consideration when they select PV.


Perhaps schools should consider explaining these reasons to those not chosen. By doing so may reduce the unhappiness amogst those who were rejected.

Why should school waste efforts/time/money explaining to those who is not accepted ? If school have specific requirements (which is great ie at least they know what they need/want) then list them down (briefly) just like job description (Isn't PV interview similar in nature to Job interview).

I believe the system is well thought, discussed, plan and even executed.

But end of the day - Transparency is the point I wanted to highight.

Between HAVE (phase 2b or earlier) and HAVE NOT, and WILLING (trying to get into phase 2b) or UNWILLING, and ABLE or UNABLE (move house).
It really depends on oneself.

1. HAVE / HAVE NOT
2. WILLING / UNWILLING
3. ABLE / UNABLE

Think about above and I trust you will find what you want.

There are many WILLING professional educated parents who can do whatever is mentioned and if MOE/School can accept these efforts, make it public/transparent. Efforts should be made to publicise these info before something happen to the well structured education system.

Based on the brief description of TN selection and task/duty allocation, they should have listed down the PV criteria since once you are selected you can choose your duty (ie no speciaisation is needed ie accounting, photography, music skills..etc no need to match skill/expertise to task).


Being more transparent does not mean balloting only.
If they value the PV time availability, education, financial background..etc, then list them down.

Otherwise, by balloting and allow them to choose task means \"Free labour\". To me, it seem a good GE topic since the system influence current and future generation and lots of KS parents.
