• RE: COP 2012 - For Secondary Schools in 2013

PTLMum:
My DS got into Victoria IP (257). Wondered why VS IP COP dropped from 255 to 252 this year. Anyone can share?

Most likely due to increase in intake in VS as well as the increase in schools participating in the integrated programme.

thebigapple, What did you join in the clubs?

thebigapple:

i was in clubs for 2 years and i had managed to get 23 leaps points within that two years. i completed the 100 hours in sec 1 and joined a few competitions. it's pretty easy to get that distinction for cca, i must say. almost 9 points are a giveaway, due to cip and enrichment. plus, you get another 4 basic points, which amounts to 13. thereafter, you can join competitions. it's pretty easy.

environmental club. sure not the most glamorous cca.

• RE: Temasek Junior College [*IP]

Tanky:
Some CCAs listed in earlier post are available only for Yr5-6 (eg, tennis, journalist).

Yr1 students need to take up 1 sport and 1 club.
Yr2 drop one to focus on the other, till 1H Yr4.
Yr4 2H students can consider changing CCA (as some CCAs available only to Yr5/6 come in play).
May I know what is offered and what is not for the IP programme? Thanks πŸ™‚

• RE: Cedar Girls Sec Or St Nicks

Pascal the cham:
Hi thebigapple,

Thanks for the advice. But why you don't enjoy yourself in cedar? Is it because the curriculum is too stressful?
actually, no. the curriculum is actually pretty okay for me. except for the school hours. but it's not because it's not manageable or anything of that sort. it's more because of the thought of staying in school for such long hours. especially if you're taking msp/csp, then you'll have to stay in school till 315 everyday. (except for weds, if there's assembly, which there is, most of the time) but the main reason i don't like cedar is because of the restrictive environment. i mean, they do stretch you, academically and mentally (and physically). but, it's just not very enjoyable. the teachers there are pretty...unlikable. well, in my case. it feels like that for me. and in cedar, there are plentyyyyy of young teachers, which can be a bad thing, or a good thing. it depends on how you look at it. but back to the topic of curriculum. i do have quite a few friends who are struggling. but if you are able to handle stress well enough, you'll be fine.

• RE: Cedar Girls Sec Or St Nicks

Pascal the cham:
Please help! I don't know whether to choose st nicks or cedars since both are good schools and I have an aggregate of 251+2. :thankyou:

my opinion is a bit biased as i was from cedar. (for two years) but anyways, i entered cedar with 252, and was actually the bottom of my class. (cedar has 4 math olympiad classes, i was in one of those classes) i didn't enjoy my time there. i too, contemplated on whether to go cedar or st nicks (or dunman, which i did not make it). but i realised that in st nicks, you tend to find a lot of the primary school students there, due to affiliation and all. which causes pre-existent 'cliques'. this was proven by my friend, who was pretty lonely at first. it would be harder to fit in, i guess. whereas, in cedar, you have none of that, because cedar primary is not affiliated. but then again, st nicks produce good o level results. i'm not saying cedar doesn't. cedar does. but, i didn't like the school after all, which was why i transferred after two years. there are many friends of mine who love cedar a lot. i hope you make the right choice πŸ™‚

no matter what school you go to, just enter the school with an open mind πŸ™‚

What about TKGS (233). I think you should put in school with COP 230-ish in option 3, then move down the rest. JMHO πŸ˜„

ya thought of TKGS too.
cop 230-ish school kinda hard to filter imho
still very confused

i've heard that students who enter tkgs/tkss like the school a lot, perhaps due to the warm environment. also, the students they produce are pretty good as well. πŸ™‚ it's worth considering. if i'm not wrong, they produce good o level results too.
Hi to all parents and students of Cedar,

Do you find your school stressful? will my daughter still have time for piano practice, thinking of joing u, t score 253. Thanks!!! Any school bus from tampines area?
All of you who take to Aljunied mrt in the morns, shall we request for a school shuttle from Aljunied station...good idea? :xedfingers: maybe pick-up 7 am or 7.10am so no need to wait for bus 100 and walk in.

Hi, I am a Sec 2 student (2012) from Cedar Girls and I think Cedar's stress level is very tolerable. Every school is bound to have a certain amount of stress and I really don't think Cedar's stress is overwhelming. In fact, us Cedarians have so much fun in school and you seldom see people breaking down. As for the school bus, you may inquire with the school. And yes, many people do take buses from Aljunied. Hoping they would have a shuttle bus from Potong Pasir MRT to Cedar as well, because it is usually a long 10 min or 15 min walk.

Hi Want_to_know,
Thanks for your reply. What are your typical shool hours like? Are they very long?
hey,

i am (actually, was.) a student from cedar. the school hours are pretty long. they extended the school hours in 2012, which caused much displeasure. for your information, the school hours are from 730 (assembly) to 315 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. on Mondays and Thursdays, school ends at 135. however, if you are taking MSP/CSP, school ends at 315.
