Selecting an prioritising the 6 choices is the important part. It's been advised many times on this board in previous years too, that at least the 6th choice should be significantly lower than the child's score. And by \"significant\", I guess 10-20 points would be fair. We were one of the \"kiasu\" ones - my daughter's 6th choice was about 30 points lower.

Ah. But still many parents rank the choices thinking it is dependent on relative choices between students instead of the system going down the list through students by merit eh.

Parents really need to do homework and understand how COP comes about.

Demand and supply, affiliation vs non affiliation from pri sch, changes in MOE policies, temp location of schools etc.

I feel the more important homework is find out how the school allocation is done by the system though.
By the time we talk about COP, posting is already out.

It is the selecting and prioritising of the 6 choices that matters most eh.


I must confess I had be mistaken all these while and only found out on a most just in time basis...

Hi. How is appealing done by a school and why there is appealing? Can a school add on students based on appeal or it is solely based on pure vacancy created by the previous students posted to the school?

Appeal process varies from school to school.

In general, all schools want to maximise and fill their spaces available. It can be safely assumed that on posting day, all or most schools (except for a handful of schools with COP ~ 188) will have their vacancies fully filled. Therefore, most schools cannot add on students and they can only offer a place to another if there's a vacancy available (student withdraw, request LOA, etc).

Assuming all the mid and top tiered schools are filled (maxed out) and rational human beings (nobody will appeal to the lowest tiered school), how is it possible to have any wriggle room for appeal leh?

Does that mean we need 1 case of withdrawal/ LOA to set a chain reaction of musical chair in motion?
Realistically/ historically/ statistically, how likely is that to happen?
