There are prob 15 schs with IP/IB program with average intake of 200-400. Assuming an average intake of 4,500 of which prob 30% already got in via DSA. Top 3% (AL4-5) is 1k. Top 10% of cohort (AL4-8) is 3.9k (inclusive of DSA kids who will not participate in S1), are we too conservative to assume AL6 need balloting ?

It is also my understanding that those 50 AL14 citizen students who chose the sch as first choice will ballot for the remaining 30 places.
Hi I would like to confirm something about posting by merit. In prior years, the students r sorted by their T score (possibly up to decimal places).
But now there will be a larger pool of students of same AL score. How does the system decide who in this pool of AL score to fill in first?
Eg in a non-sap school where all AL13 students have been posted, left with 30 places for AL14 students. There are 50 students who happen to be citizens, and all placed the school as 1st choice. How does the system determine, who to fill up the places first and who will be the last 21 students to ballot for the last place?
I would expect all these 50 AL14 are in tie breaker position to ballot for 30 places. But in MOE’s example, it’s the same as previous system, that is some students balloting for the last place. So I’m kind of confused.
Those international AL14 students or Singaporean AL14 students who chose the sch as 2nd and below will be excluded in balloting. -

Daughter want to continue netball in secondary school and Nan Chiau doesn’t have netball as CCA
Perhaps you can consider Nan Chiau High too due to distance factor? A classmate received confirmed offer for both Nan Chiau high and chung Cheng for arts- related DSA in 2019. In the end she chose Nan Chiau due to distance factor I think, as staying in Sengkang too. Just sharing.FantasyLandDreams\" post_id=\"2049087\" time=\"1638017968\" user_id=\"105816:
Attended this morning YouTube channel introduction by the school principal and decided to Reece with daughter by MRT and walking to the school rear gate. The traveling time from Sengkang to the school is about 52 minutes
Wondering will she be able to cope with the distance for the next 4 years .
Noticed the compound area is run down
My block is just opposite Nan Chiau and is comparable shorter distance than CCHM
In Sec sch, most sports CCAs need to go through selection trials or have been selected via DSA. Have you anticipated what happened if your DD got in CCHM but not netball? -

Out of curiosity, will we be informed of the balloting process? For example, 55 students with AL11 (assuming same citizenship n choice order) vying for last remaining 50 vacancy. So possible the 5 may meet the cutoff of AL11 and not get in. Is the balloting process transparent?

Exactly. For that reason, my dd rather choose a good O level express sch than NJC/TJC because the CCAs offered at these jc are so limited.

I brought it up first because everytime I see a comparison between njc/tjc, and another school (any school), my first alarm is cca. And this cca thing stems from cohort size. A nephew was in one of these, he was in the sec school section of a jc, and some ccas are taken up by dsa, couple that with fewer ccas, and then factor in your own flair/talent or lack of talent, and then your interest, you end up with almost nothing to choose. They have no uniform group. If you are not sporty and not musically inclined, nothing is left. Ok I exaggerate but this “struggle” is real.SG_KP1\" post_id=\"2048429\" time=\"1637851199\" user_id=\"188234:
I hear the arguments on cohort size but have wondered how much it really matters? I can see how it makes more CCAs available but many of them are still competitive as heck to get a spot in…

Can consider VS, my son has a few friends staying in Pasir Ris.
Hi,
We are staying at Pasir Ris. My son got AL7M.
May I know what any advise on Secondary School Selection?
1. NAN CHIAU HIGH SCHOOL - 40 min
2. HWA CHONG INSTITUTION - 80 min
3.TEMASEK JUNIOR COLLEGE - 65 min (upgrading from 2024 to 2027 (tentative), school will hold classes at 2 Tampines Ave 9)
4.CATHOLIC JUNIOR COLLEGE - 70 min
Should we even consider if the travelling take more than 1 hour?
Any other school that we should put into consideration? -

I would think so. That is the same as last time with t score - non sap schools dont look at your hmt grade.
So AL7D, AL7M, AL7P and AL7 will be grouped together for balloting if any for non SAP schools?Thinker\" post_id=\"2047854\" time=\"1637748940\" user_id=\"4205:

For non SAP school, HCL score is not considered. -

Yes I also want to know what are we supposed to do now
If our kids are accepted via DSA. Do we need to contact the
school or what? Can someone give some info.
any 3rd lang selection to be done online ?
If u are successful in DSA allocation and was given 3rd lang eligibility, do we still need to log on to reply if we decide not to take up the 3rd lang?
