Does anyone know the opening dates and times for the sale of school uniform and PE attire? Is it in the school bookshop or a separate classroom?

      Hi all,

My eldest son is currently studying in VS Year 1 (IP). I've noticed his getting stressed up lately and even have started to grow white hair. During PTM around a month ago his form teacher told me that he seem to not have any friends in the school. I've asked him about it and he told me that due to the fact that it's a boy school and that his the only one from his Primary school that went to VS, most of the boys does not share the same interests with him. Therefore he feels that he does't fit in and 'have no friend'. Due to this, his teachers have misunderstood him and thought that he's unsocial, lazy, incapable etc. Basically, a 'bad student'. (I also have no idea why)(Not saying that VS teachers are bad) I've also noticed that his results are affected by this. I'm wondering if I should transfer him to another school (Preferably Mixed-school) like Anglican High. He said that he doesn't want to do anything and just deal with it as he's afraid that things will get worst. But I'm afraid that he will develop depression and/or anti-social behaviour later on. So what should I do or what should he do? Thank you very much.
      Hi Jennifer,

Lionhersted has made good points. It is good to raise this up to the school counsellor. victorian can also offer good advice as an old boy who has been through the system. Transferring to another school may work, but it may also lead to a new round of adjustments. Wishing you and your son the best.

Yes, the Victoria Challenge was really atmospheric. Was there for Supper with Family organised by PSG and brought food for my son and friends. Many alumni, including some who had started working, also came back and did their own challenge.

Could feel the Victorian Spirit literally. The buzz and excitement were in the air. When the cheers broke out, I was so moved. The cheering during yesterday's closing was even louder. Really envious of my boys who have such experiences. Must help them to appreciate what they have.

For parents who are interested, can see more of what the boys did for VC at the school Facebook account: https://www.facebook.com/victoriaschoolsingapore
Thanks for sharing! It was a good experience for parents too..to see the boys working so hard on something that they believe in. It was quite a sight to see 30-40 boys turn their classroom into a bedroom for a night, and sleep together..the camaraderie is amazing. Was also pleasantly impressed at the boys' well-mannered behaviour at the booths as they addressed those older than them as sir and ma'am. I asked DS about it, and he said that's how they're taught to address their teachers in school as well. The cheering video at the end of Victoria Challenge really summed everything up very well. Overall, DS's experience in VS so far as been nothing short of amazing. Looking forward to more details of the 140th anniversary celebrations next year.

Victoria Challenge 2015 was brilliant! Did any one see the boys cheering late into the night? πŸ˜„

I saw some pictures. My son came back with a painted glass. Dunno what to do with it.

Personally hand painted? Good for keepsake!
The atmosphere last night was amazing. The boys were cheering their hearts out and I'm surprised how strong the school spirit is. Never expected DS to be so attached to his school as well.

My DS’s yellow PE t-shirt seems to have threads coming off quite a bit. Has any one else noticed? Don’t know if it’s a quality issue or if it’s because he does quite a bit of physical exercise in it.

Great community here. :rahrah: DS just completed his orientation and had the badge pinning ceremony (so formal! πŸ˜‚ ) Proud that he's now \"officially\" a Victorian. :boogie:

Thank you Sieg and Rainbowie! Very glad to meet other parents of Victorians.

DS is thinking of joining a UG but doesn't know what to expect. Scouts and Boys Brigade seem like good alternative to the NCC brand. Though it also means spending 6 days out of 7 in school. πŸ˜“

It looks like the tank top is not needed for now. Thanks for the heads up. I heard about the East Coast Park PE lessons too, and I think the boys are really privileged. πŸ˜‚

Thanks for the information on the online portals and databases as well. Will be much needed! Good to hear about the 8.25am start.

It's interesting how the school can bring together boys of different backgrounds and personalities, and create such a strong school culture. I'm not sure what \"Victorian spirit\" means now, but I'm excited to see what DS develops into. Have a good school year, fellow parents! πŸ˜„
