Thanks! If girls taking 8 or 9 subject can be in the same class, then how are the classes formed? According to the humanities subject? Based on Sec 2 class?
In a class containing 8-subject and 9-subject students, the students with 8 subjects will have some free periods in their timetable (i.e. they are free to go to the library or stay in their classroom if it's not being used for lesson during that free period).

Students with the same AL score will be categorised into sub-groupings and the sub group will arrange in the order of

Singapore/PR/Foreigners, follow by choice order of school. Balloting will be done for the last subgroup which contains more students than available vacancies.

e.g. for illustration, if there are 15 vacancies for AL6 and there are 30 applicants, the 30 applicants will be arranged according to subgroup.

      Subgroup 1 ( AL6 + SG + Choice 1) 8 students
      Subgroup 2 (AL6 + PR + Choice 1) 2 students
      Subgroup 3 (AL6 + IS + Choice 1) 10 students
      Subgroup 4 (AL6 + SG + Choice 2) 2 student
      Subgroup 5 (AL6 + PR + Choice 2) 5 students
      Subgroup 6 (AL6 + IS + Choice 2) 3 students

Since there are 15 vacancies left, only subgroup 3 will have balloting because all student in subgroup 1 and 2 has given priority, while subgroup 4 5 and 6 have no chance even with same AL6 scores.

So for RI and RGS, I reckon there will be a large pool of AL6 students who apply RI/RGS as the first choice and they are all Singaporeans. MOE will likely use the same balloting approach as primary school enrollment. Doesn't need to be anything fancy.
I don't think the flow is correct, because citizenship status is at a higher priority than the order of choice. So, group 4 will be taken first before group 2. But I might be mistaken.

      AL 8M

      1st choice - SCGS IP
2nd choice - Cedar Girls IP
      3rd choice - St Nicholas O level

Results - St Nicholas O level
Question to MOE - How can you determine whether a student qualifies for O level or IP track based on balloting? Does it make sense to the student?
Understandable for u to be upset becos u didnt get wat u want.
But if IP track is the most important factor, u could have put in DHS, TJC, RV in the 3rd-5th choices.
MOE cannot satisfy everyone for sure.

Hello!! Just checking for some friends, is there a Whatsapp chat for S1 2022 students yet? If so, feel free to pm me the details, thank you!
Posting results not out yet, so it's unlikely the whatsapp group has been created.

Those who DSA through GEP are in 102 & 103 classes. Think 101 & 112 are for elective programs students. The remaining 8 classes are for others like other DSAs, students through PSLE score (including top scorers , or GEP who came in through PSLE etc)
The specification of GEP classes varies from year to year (i.e. not 102 & 103 every year).

What MOE share is based on 2020 S1 posting result where applicants made their choices using t-score result and indicative t-score COP. In 2020 we know that RGS COP is 1 point lower than 2019. (260 vs 261).

Since we know 258 is the lowest AL6 COP for 2020 (MGS), we can then estimate AL5 lowest t-score to be around 261 (5 raw score marks) \"coincidentally\" 261 and AL5 are also the COP for ESIS.

I really think RGS should avoid conducting balloting for AL5 if it is just because of 1 or 2 extra applicants because that will really traumatize 2022 cohort parents who are hoping to get their girls to RGS. Perhaps RGS should make some provisions to increase the cohort size?? (if its possible)
Will we even be told of the truth in the end? (whether balloting occurred or not)
Anyway, in the previous system, let's say in 2020, RGS COP was 259.7 and so there was perhaps a handful of students who did not get in because their T-score was 259.5 and 259.6 (they use more decimal places, i know, but just illustrating in a simpler way). The same argument can be made that the school should have expanded their cohort intake to accept these few students, right?

I think our next round of discussion will be on posting day! So curious how it will all pan out this year..
Never cease to wonder why in this modern technological age that they need
almost 1 month to generate the school posting results... .... 🤷

Based on historical T-score COP and 2020 indicative AL COP, the only school with a risk of AL 5 COP is RGS because COP for 2019 and 2020 was 261 and 260 respectively (both without HCL), while we know the lowest possible t-score for AL5 is around 261.

AL grade is determined using raw scores, so there is really no way for MOE to interfere with PSLE results or to block the possibility of AL5 balloting.

For RGS all it takes is to have 1 AL5 too much to force the entire pool of AL5 applicants to go through balloting.

      e.g. RGS : 400 places,

      DSA : 120 places

      Balance : 280 places

      AL4 : 130 applicants
      AL5 : 151 applicants

From the above, all 151 applicants with AL5 will have to go through balloting.

And that to me is the scary part because just 1 applicant, the entire country will raise the gold standard of PSLE from AL5 to AL4.
If only 1 top school ends up having to do balloting as u described, it's just an unavoidable outcome of this new AL system. Question is, is this such a big deal as ppl imagine to be?
I feel tat since schools with COP of AL7-9, AL10-12, etc etc have to undergo balloting n consequently cause anguish to some students & parents, why must the system ensure tat the top few schools be spared from such a predicament? Life is never fair, u just have to cope with the card tat u receive.

      :?:

      Thank you for the advice!!

      Dear parents, gurus.
Please give any opinion for my girl. :?: :?: :?:

My girl Is PR with 7(M) and NYGH, NJC, RVHS are her top 3 choice.

I also think for NYGH she has high chance for balloting.
As ‘PR’ student who has lower priority may not be seated with only 7M(NYGH’s COP).
Also for NJC(cop 7), same situation may happen.

Then my concern is that RVHS(COP9) is on her 3rd choice order.
But there might be many 7D,7M citizen student and even PRs who put RVHS as 1st or 2nd choice.
Even worse, some 5,6 pointers already secured the seats in RVHS.
So she will lose all 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice school????

This might be the extreme assumption but I cannot get out of this big dilemma and still not decided yet.
How to do? Better give up 1 choice either NYGH or NJC to secure RVHS?
Any opinion will be appreciated. Thank you 😢
U need to ask ur DD (and perhaps yourself) how badly you want NYGH. I personally dun see how or why NYGH is superior to RV, there are many good schools tat give their students great learning environment and opportunities.
No one can guarantee whether RV COP ends up as 7 instead of the \"indicative\" 9. Since you seem to be super worried, better make sure that your 4th-6th choices are acceptable and you won't regret.
