To illustrate how student weak in MT can end up in higher bands


If score for eng = math = sci = above 90
But then MT only 50
Overall score gets pulled down tremendously & student gets banded wrongly into band 2 or 3 when in fact eng/math/sci she should have opportunity to learn with band 1 students
In fact in curent/new system even MT she is in wrong class. Coz if she is really weak then she should join band 5 for MT to learn at her own pace

Of course example is extreme above but point is student is banded incorrectly

Did any parent notice from this year the banding of classes is based on their total score ? Was it by Maths/English alone previous years ? Anyone knows ?


Thinking that MOE is going to remove T score soon for PSLE & CHIJ using total score to band students in classes seems like a step away from MOE's vision.

Especially for girls weaker in mother tongue, now they end up in higher bands just because their total score is lower. Previously the girls even used to change classes for English & Maths if they have achieved lower bands for these particular subjects. Now if they are in band 2, or 4, they stay in it for \"all\" subjects.

I think Principle Mdm Chin should not just keep changing everything in the school just to show she is changing things & making something happen. Its good to be humble & retain what worked in Kellock from Ms Clara Lim's time.
