Which school is champion in music (SE) ???

I was asked by alumni’s parent when visited 3 schools for DSA test, audition and interview,
if I felt that SAP sch sec students are more snobbish, but I didn’t feel like it at all, surprisingly!

The 2 SAP schools I visited, all the seniors are very friendly and my DD felt very welcome and valued now she even studies harder for her PSLE to get into their schools because of the warm welcome 😂😂😂 :xedfingers:
There is no ranking for performance arts so no such thing as champion. Schools that performed well for syf will attain Distinction award. So you can probably check out the school’s website to see their achievements for the specific CCA related to the DSA domain.

Just wondering what would the considerations be for like performing arts since there isn’t quite a champion school per se.

Asking on behalf of a friend who is torn between NJC and RVHS, which schools if child likes both schools?

      Thanks!
Performing arts - if you want to know which school is stronger in this area would be to see their past achievements in SYF (ie distinction award). Other than that, the key difference would be SAP and non-SAP school culture.

Yes he asked once but then still couldn’t catch. So he didn’t want to ask again.

Yes there were 2 teachers. I was also surprised why the other tr didn’t say anything. Or maybe it’s my son’s issue. No idea. Don’t want to ask him further coz he seems upset.
My kid shared with me last time that 2 teachers: 1 ask questions / carry out the conversation while the other observes. Both teachers assign marks.

Hi! Thank you for your kind advice & detailed response!

I do been wondering if \"less than Gold/Platinum/top\" in NMOS, SMOPS, and RIPMWC stands any chance for DSA Math into RI/HCI. There's probably higher chance for NUSH due to their 100% DSA policy with cohort size of ~180 students. So your \"prima facie\" reply nailed it.

I guess I'll go for full transparency here as we need as much advice as we can get, and we do not have any friends who'd been in this similar DSA Math journey. We do have friends who gotten into NUSH but via SIE (after PSLE), and into RI via Sec 1 posting. But we're not confident with PSLE either due to mother tongue & English.

So here's my son's full DSA awards/activities list, would love to have suggestions & comments please 🙏 to maximize his chance getting into NUSH or RI or HCI or SST or NJC via DSA Math/STEM/Infocomm route: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CGLhSDwH0ejd13owa1B3ulMcCcsonQz-tTSp29xxOaQ/edit?usp=sharing

Impressive profile for No 6 & 7. I feel that you are on the right track in these 2 areas for informatics Olympian. And you stand a good chance for Stem DSA domain. Usually top performers for National Olympiad Informatics r from NUSH, RI and HCI, but I’m not sure if RI and HCI has stem domain or not.

      Thanks for clarification, Marina

      That means,
any DSA applicant who is interested in RI (Sports) domain can just book a trial slot for themselves, to be assessed (examined) by the coach. No need to wait for personal special invitation to come from the coach first, before can perform a Sports trial.
This is confusing. I think Phtthp is talking about DSA trial/audition while Marina is talking about CCA trial (ie y1 RI students need to go through trials for their CCA selection at the beginning of their y1).

I don’t think DSA students gets to go through CCA trials because they would have been assigned to the CCA tied to their DSA domain.

Yes, for most. But some government scholarships allow them to study first then serve NS (but only some, not all, govt scholarships).

Hi, for overseas undergraduate study, boys have to complete NS first right?

      Hi!
      Thank you for the reply.
Does it cover all the ccomponents as well? Tia
There is no exam for p1, so I don’t what does all components include. Plus my kids r not p1 now so I can’t recall entirely those components in the book.

Suggest you to go popular to have a look if it includes the components you have in mind.

      Hello! 🙂
I am looking for English assesment book for p1. There are so many components and can someone please guide which ones are worth buying as there are so many in the market. I cant afford to put her in enrichment centre. Hence ,would appreciate if someone could advice. Thanks. 🙂
Personally my kids and I like the thick book “Daily Dose of English”. The font is big, and it has different components coverage. So they find it less boring.

You may check with your boss what are the possible arrangements for your case.

In DH’s office, the mummies will start to do half day part-time at the beginning of the calendar year before taking no pay leave from May/June till PSLE exams are over. Some of them start to take leave as early as end of P5.

I don’t think it’s easy to motive them to study hard. Even my secondary 4 daughter is also not the motivated kind. She does not know what she wants to be in the future. More practical may be to take leave (if your company allows) and help guide them over this last stretch before PSLE.
Yes find out / sound out what kind of arrangement is possible with boss.

Just sharing my ex colleague’s case - pre covid. She switched to part time for half a year (cos she wishes to spend more time revising with the kid) and took 50% pay cut. Unfortunately, her workload didn’t cut 50% and in the end she left office often at 4pm and brought work home to continue. Unable to rest, and spend time efficiently as she planned and was very tired.
