    • RE: All About Piano Maintenance & Tuning

Hi, is it possible for a piano to be damaged if the piano bench hit the bottom cover of the piano?

My piano is in the bedroom and yesterday, someone was moving a rather heavy super single mattress out of the room and in the process of doing so, the mattress pushed the piano bench all the way in and hit the bottom cover of the piano. Would this cause any damage to the piano? I’m feeling really worried now haiz.

The piano bench is the adjustable type with a cushioned top.

but humans will always think the grass is greener on the other side. Like if i already spend $10.6k on u3, why not pay $2k more for yus5, which top end model with sustenuto pedal (although unlikely to be used even at dip level)

Thanks for the advice. Im not keen on 2nd hand pianos, not sure what goes on inside and am not an expert to inspect it myself. Hope to get the best model within budget of around $10k ++.

Im an adult learner taking grade 2 exam soon while my son has shown good interest after one year of lessons. Daughter will start lessons next year. So i think it is a good investment since three of us will be playing it! Haha

When the sales lady played on the U3, i really felt “wowwww”, so impressive. But i didnt have the same feeling when she played yus5. Wonder y.

Putting yus5 aside, would U3 or a yus1 be better?

The cost of yus5 is really steep and im really wondering if it is worth the price.

      Hi all,

      I am considering between u1, u3, yus1, yus3 and yus5.

U1 and yus1 have the same dimensions but yus1 has german strings. Yus1 is $2500 more than u1.

U3 and yus 3 have the same dimensions but yus3 has german strings. Yus3 is $1400 more than u3.

Yus5 is similar to yus3 but with sustenuto pedal and ivorite keys and sound can escape from the front. Yus5 is just $800 more than yus3.

My piano teacher said that sustenuto pedal is very rarely used for diploma pieces. Hence, actually even u1 can be used until diploma level. But when u compare the pianos in the showroom side by side, i find the sound of u3 very impressive and deep. While yus5 is crystal clear. Yus3 sounds the same as yus5 to me. U1 sounds like it cant fully express itself.

But our home is small although we have a high ceiling of more than 6metres in the living room. I wonder if there’s a point to buy such a “powerful” sounding piano when the house is small, even a u1 will sound very loud.

Anyone went through the same dilemma and what did u buy in the end?

    • RE: Anglo Chinese Family of Schools

      Hi,

The ACS OBA includes the entire ACS family right up to ACJC. I would like to find out for primary 1 registration, phase 2A1, does it mean whoever is in OBA qualifies even if he was only from the secondary/JC? Or phase 2A1 is strictly for OBA members from the PRIMARY school?

      Thanks!

I’m concerned because i have heard of other schools such as st nicks that have a combined alumni resulting in balloting at phase 2a1!
