Yeah, I am surprised too that 256 can get into NUSH.

But even more surprised that he chose to stay at NJC instead of NUSH.

Whatever it is, Congrats to your nephew.

My DS also got an offer from NUSH, but he wanted to stay at ACS(I). I was reallyyyy surprised when we got the call too. Looks like this year the COP is low across all schools. :celebrate:

NUSH website has updated info on the PSLE score for last year PSLE applicants:

\"the aggregate range of 2009’s PSLE pupils posted to 2010 secondary 1 is 256-274.\"

According to RI, their first batch of IP had \"sterling performance\".

Check this article found in the RI website that says:

\"Sterling Performance of the First Cohort of the Raffles Programme\"

      http://www.rjc.edu.sg/new/news.asp?p=10&s=&order=

Thank you for the link :salute: :salute: :salute:

But when click for details, it says got virus leh !!

Can cut & paste the article ?

This is stated in the article. In addition there is a table that shows performance of IP vs non IP. Can't paste the table here - too long amd format issues. When you click on the link, just ignore the warning and proceed, it will get you to the article.

Alternatively use this link and go to page 10.

Sterling Performance of the First Cohort of the Raffles Programme

Raffles Girls’ Secondary (RGS), Raffles Institution (RI) and Raffles Junior College (RJC) are proud to present the achievements of the first cohort of the Raffles Programme. 75.5% of all the students who received excellent results at the 2007 GCE “A” level examinations underwent the integrated programme offered at RGS and RI. Their results show that they have been able to excel at the “A” levels even though they did not sit the “O” level examination. The Raffles Programme has provided these students with a more enriched curriculum, more time and greater exposure to research programmes, overseas expeditions, community and social entrepreneurship projects and special training courses such as Future Problem Solving. Beyond strong academic grades, the Raffles Programme has certainly added value to the learning experience of our students and provided them with the confidence, mindsets and competences needed for the challenges of a competitive global environment.

No. I am referring to whether any 6 year IP such as those from RGS/RI or HCI/Nanyang. Have the 1st batch done their A Level ?

      Thanks

      chim don't quite understand

There was some discussion of this in another thread.
If I find it, I will post here.
Cawley's blog sounds very lop-sided in retrospect.

If GEP is really supportive of his son, I don't see why he has to leave Singapore and go to Malaysia instead. It costs a lot of money and effort to move to another country.

In any case, I think may be his son did not pass the GEP selection test 😉 That's why GEP does not think that he is gifted.[/quote]I happen to stumble on his blog one or two years ago. At that time I cannot help but get the impression that there were a lot of negative comments and many sweeping statements made - not just in the area of the education system but also on the culture and the social behavior of people here.

So I was not surprised when the newspaper article appeared a week ago filled with negative comments on MOE and the schools he had been to.

I believe that MOE and the schools are not saying too much publicly to avoid any damage to the ego and personality of the boy. I do think that the father had been given reasons why MOE or the schools had designed a different path for him. It is different from his expectation and so cannot accept them.

I think he is better of in the Malaysian education system. But again I will not be surprise at all if we hear of his complaints of Malaysia in another few months.

From the postings in this thread, I gather that many activities were not well organised and / or executed.

If any of you parents whose kids had been through NYPS you will realise that there is a world of difference in terms of organisation skills and communication from school to stakeholders (parents/students). Little wonder the NYPS principal is promoted to head NYGH.

But in any case, good experience for the youngsters to sort things out in that fuzzy world.

Yes, I have heard of NYPS excellent organisation skills and its communication channels effectiveness.

I am really disappointed with the team at NJC.

I have not been thru the activities in NJC and so cannot really comment on how disorganised the NJC team has been.

Generally, one would not expect the same level of communication from a secondary school as compared to a primary school. As the kids grow older, they also need to learn to manage on their own.

So I agree that some disorganisation and undefined chaotic activities and experience would be good for them.

In fairness to NJC, most school uniform and books purchase in other schools are managed by the vendors rather than the school.

Wow! Top student from SNGS again this year! And 13 girls with 9A1s! Cath High only 2 this year. ;(

Cath High website seems to be showing different info:
      http://www.catholichigh.moe.edu.sg/

This is list of their top students:
      http://www.catholichigh.moe.edu.sg/images/stories/attachments/207_2009%20GCE%20Result%20Summary.pdf

It says they have 2 students with 10A1 and 22 students with 9 A1

So whose info is right ? MOE or Cath High ? I am confused.

But how can MOE approve SJI application when in 2005, MOE said they has closed the gates on new IP program ?

      Don't know.

SJI only applied but no approval from MOE yet. As far as I can recall. SJI has been trying to offer and get IP approval for a long time. Some say the new principal has been brought in to help get IP approval.

NJC has changed from a 4 year program to a 6 year program. Many suspect that this is to draw the better students from year one. Now, VJC is also trying to do the same.

I don't think MOE has added any new IP schools since 2005. But maybe now with more experience and results seen from IP, more students could benefit from a IP program and skipping O levels. The basic premise of IP is it targets students who are \"clearly university bound\" to skip O levels. Maybe it is clearer now that those who are \"clearly university bound\" are not just the top 10% but also the top from the mainstream schools.

I am only guessing here. Only MOE or those in policy making would know where education landscape is heading.

How come SJI is allowed to apply for IP ? Tot they closed the gate in 2005 ?

After all, not all who got into SJI are top 10% of the cohort ?
SJI proposed a hybrid model like ACSI - offering both O level and IP. So if approved, only their top students can be in IP.

I have friends that got into I spark that are not in GEP and has aggregate as low as only 262+3.
They are not some winners too.

It is a well known fact that the majority of iSpark are GEP students with a few mainstreamers.

Not true, like for HCI, the SBGE is not only meant for GEP pupils, if pupils achieve a average score of 1.5, they can qualify for it. Furthermore, DHS' scores are higher, much higher.

      And the raffles academy too.
The selection are all done at the end of sec 2.
In HCI, the SBGE program is hosted and housed under the iSpark consortium. ISpark is only open to GEP students and a few top APMOPS platinum from mainsteam.

Here is a link on SGBE from HCI website:
      http://www.hwachong.edu.sg/ContentPage.asp?TID=55

Here is a link on iSpark:
      http://www.hci.sg/ispark/2009/

I think what you are refering to is CSE (Centre of Scholastic Excellence). CSE is focused on a particular academic area and application is open to all students in upper secondary with the acceptable scores. SBGE on the other hand also touches on non academic areas like leadership.

CSE may overlap with SBGE but it is not SBGE by itself.

Here is a link on CSE in HCI:
