xxjustakidxx:I don't know how SBGE is organised in DHS, but in most SBGE IP schools, the SBGE classes are meant for GEP students only and a few selected non GEP students. So unless your kid was from GEP in primary school, SBGE will have no impact for her. However, DHS offer School-Based Gifted Education IP, while Temesek doesn't.

snowcrystal:
Can someone advise whether the boys need to tuck their shirts into their shorts (Formal wear on Monday)? Understand the girls need not tuck in.
The boys wear long pants with shirt tuck in on mondays. they also need to put on a tie on mondays.
For other days, they wear polo tee with their shorts. -

There will be a number of places left vacant because some who were offered places via PSLE may choose to go elsewhere and some accepted via DSA may have successful appeals elsewhere.Yes.
My boy was rejected after attending the camp. I wrote an email requesting to know the reason for the rejection, but no one replied. We just wanted to know whether the sch deemed my boy unsuitable. In the end, we did not apply again although he scored A* in Ma and Sc and his PSLE score is 263.
Based on previous years practice, NUSH would call up some they rejected thru the PSLE selection process just a few days before the schools starts to make them a offer.
One would reckon that they will not look at those rejected thru DSA as the school can only assume that those still interested have applied thru the PSLE process. I guess the alternative to be reconsidered for one of the vacant places is to fill a appeal directly with the school. Those who were called up take the vacant places probably were at the COP for the school which was 260 last year. -

My guess:
So, the question as to why MOE needs 20 days to release the results of posting has not yet been answered. I am sure, MOE has already got the posting list by now.
Anyone know why MOE needs 20 days ?
By releasing posting results so close to school opening date, parents have less time to appeal and complaint. Many will then have to accept decision and not change their mind again and appeal. -
RE: Choose Secondary school for 2010
Hi2mom:
NUSH is good choice if your kid has strong inclination and liking for math and science. School has strong achievements in recent years and yet students appear to be enjoying themselves. I think their flexible approach and modular system has a part to play. One key advantage is that they do not have to sit for A levels. More time in year 5 for research instead.:thankyou:
Thanks to mathsparks, daisyt and traineeks for their opinions. I've heard that if you are chosen for NUS, you must go there despite other schools that have chosen you. Is that right? What are the advantages of NUS?
And if you are given choices as below, in which order would you choose for your child/children?:
1. NUS
2. RGS/RI
3. HCI
4. NJC
5. ACS

There is another track which discusses NUSH - check it out for its previous comments.

RE: Choose Secondary school for 2010
I think the IP route is generally considered the better learning experience for the child.
However there are other factors as well to consider. One should also consider if the IP school that the child is able to gain admission to is suitable for him/her.
For example, a child with PSLE score of 254 can only get into a SAP IP school. If chinese is not a easy subject for the child, then I think he/she is better off going to a non IP school that had produced outstanding O level results. The child has to spent 6 years in this IP school and he/she may not enjoy the time there. -
RE: 2010 COP of TOP Schools
You can get the COP of all secondary schools at the MOE website - school information service.

RE: PSLE 2009 RESULTS!!
mathsparks:
4 or 5 years ago when NUSH started, students opting to go there are probably guinea pigs. Today it is a different story. NUSH is starting to show a track record and that its students can compete with the best in maths and science. Fears about its diploma being internationally recognised has been addressed and the NUSH diploma is today recognised for entry to renown universities like Harvard, MIT. Getting into NUS is probably a certainty for its graduates particularly for the maths and science programs.
You're right, they're guinea pigs too! But the BIG difference is that they dont take A levels (NUSH) and hence, can't be compared with the masses who take the A levels. If comparison can't be made, it's anyone's guess how selection for limited U places are done. However, seeing how NUSH is \"affiliated\" to NUS, I somehow get a feeling that those kids would get priority. :?ngbrdad:
What about the students who go to NUS High and the new science and technology high school ?
They are more or less guinea pigs too right ?
These schools don't offer A levels or IB but their own exam right ? -
RE: Choose Secondary school for 2010
yellow-dk:
For boys, there are only 2 other IP schools offering tamil besides ACSI. They are NJC and NUS High. If COP for ACSI IB was 256, then both these schools had a higher COP last year - 259 for NJC and 260 for NUS High.
I heard that last year's COP was 256 for IB programme. You wont know and cant choose thus it depends on this year's cohort and the no. of kids applying... no gurantee. If unsuccessful, they will post child to \"o\" level route, so its risky...harini:
Hi,
My son got 256 with Merit for Tamil HMT. We were hoping for an IP / IB route so that he does not have to got thro' the O levels. Based on past experiences, is there any chance of getting into ACS(I) IB with 256?
Any other schools to recommend, most other IP schools are SAP schools with no Tamil. Please help :?: ...
So I think for your son, there is little risk in applying for ACSI. If he cannot get in IB there - then unlikely that he will make it to the other 2 schools.
BTW, he can apply directly to NUS High via their website and not use up any of his 6 choice (that is if he is not against the idea of a maths and science specialisation).
Alternatively, he can try to get into a good O level school - example ACSI, SJI, Victoria and then try for IP at sec 3. IP Schools which admit at sec 3 are Victoria JC, Tamesek JC and NUS High. SJI may also be offering IP later on.
Good Luck.
