RE: Creative O
Just to share my review about this school.
What I feel to be one of the best preschool in the West of Singapore.
I enrolled my kids into this hidden gem (yes, hidden gem.. it came highly recommended only by word of mouth by a relative who worked in the early childhood industry) when I had to go back to work and was looking for a full-time childcare. They take in students from 3year onwards (year of birth). Loved the school so much with my first born that I ensured my second born is transferred to this school once he is eligible to enrol.
Seriously, who has heard of this school? Tucked in the IBP. It's been around for 20years and nary anybody has talked about it online except this thread, only recently then they exposed themselves on social media. Or maybe all the parents are just happy to keep it \"hidden\" so that it doesn't have an explosive waitlist for all their friends' and neighbours' children...
Most parents would send their children to the brand name \"franchises\" childcare..
Like many \"kiasu parents\", I have done a lot of research, and also visited many preschools ranging from PCF to top end international ones. I like some top end privately run preschools (large, outdoorsy etc) but cost is a problem. Then I found Creative O that practically marked all the ticks on my checklist.
Initial impression or first visit - may sound \"noisy\" depending on what time of the day you are visiting, look \"cluttered\" and \"old\" to some...
BUT, the \"noise\" in the morning before main activity starts or end of the day comes from very happy children talking or sharing to each other about their day etc. Things are well sorted in the classrooms and shelved, with plenty of arts and recycled materials available for students to use for their school work. The school is clean, and occasional outbreaks such as HFMD if any, are very well controlled, and has minimal impact, due to teachers and aunties' dedication to cleanliness.
The school has dedicated experienced administrative personnel, and is helmed by a very dedicated principal Ms Tan (also ECDA fellow) who has operated the school for 20yrs.
One important thing to note is the school is operated non profit. Wherein other schools charge extra for \"enrichment\" etc, there is absolutely no extra charges for the creative movement, visual arts class, speech and drama, floor exercise, K2 drama camp and workshop incorporated into curriculum; and they are all taught by professional Arts practicioners who have taught year after year in this same school. There is the optional CCA (wushu and Chinese dance) for K1 and up, and is also, run at affordable rates.
Staff - you can't get better value than this here for the school fees one pay. Where some schools sell their outlook or fancy program, they have very junior teachers and low staff retention rate.
The credentials of the teachers here are impressive (ok la.. to me. Some have masters degree hor, don't play play). Many teachers have taught here for over 5yrs and some as long as 15yrs. They are highly experienced and this is so very important in early childhood... Why ah? You may ask..
I have seen first hand how inclusive this school is. The teachers are able to handle difficult students (at this stage of life, some kids may present symptoms of ADHD, autism but yet may not actually have the condition, while some may have been diagnosed and is able to integrate well) and students with physical disabilities, with love and care. They don't simply go up to the parent and just coldly ask the parents to change school, get kids assessed or say the kid has a problem and shrug off.
Because of the very strong parent- teacher collaboration in this school, the teachers will feedback to parents on behavior, that they are working on it, and how parents can work with teachers to reinforce positive behaviors at home etc. I get near daily verbal updates on my children even without asking. Some schools are just fetch and go.
Curriculum - emergent, play based (coz children learn better from play), very developmentally appropriate and focused, researched and developed with collaboration with a Taiwanese professor (detail from website).. it doesn't overly focus on academic (coz I don't want smart brats or self centered, low EQ intellects) but offers a very well rounded education, from character building, to social, environmental awareness (beach cleaning, recycling, monthly visits to elder Care etc), whilst building up confidence and readiness for primary school's academic rigours. It's effectively bilingual.
Somehow.. the word of mouth for this school is very strong among the Chinese community (PRC and Taiwanese..) and we know how KS they are due to their strong competition at home.. but happy to have my children learn native Chinese from their children here.
The school has visiting children from other schools, e.g. malay students during Hari Raya celebration for example. Yearly, it also play host to many teachers-in-training (attachment stints), some from as far as Taiwan or locally from SUSS..
Food wise - the children loves the food the aunties cook here inhouse. For birthday celebrations, they advocate meaningful celebrations. They respectfully request no cream cakes (healthier), preferably no goodie bags (not to attach materialistic values or expectations). Healthy eating habits (and that means little to no sweets, yay!!) Is promoted in this school.
The school sometimes has free parenting talks (some are external invited speakers), collaborative events, and a private library of parenting books that parents have access to.
Not forgetting.. the highlighted 3D2N camp to an external island. The children will be well prepared for life, learning first aid, climbing trees, cooking over campfire...etc
Hope the school can continue its mission, and continue to push early childhood education to Pinnacle of excellence... :imcool: -

Thanks for the tip.
I think if you ask the same questions on the other schools thread, you are going to get the same response. Some like Musang King, some like D24, I like Ang Hay. One man's meat is another man's poison.transient\" post_id=\"1916167\" time=\"1561653005\" user_id=\"158587:
Hmm, still no replies from fellow parents.
Now left wondering if I should take this as a positive or negative for the school... oops.
Zac's mum, am still waiting to hear from the parents. If I find anything, will condense the answers and share with you. Cheers.
My suggestion would be for the questions to be distilled further. If your post can be answered in 280 characters, that would be a good one
If you are looking for a thesis, it would be TL; DR or TL; don't bother to reply.
I truly appreciate the effort by the parent who answered me via PM. You rock!

RE: Henry Park Primary
Dear current HPPS parents,
Understand that the school (or at least from the official website) looks at a holistic education for the children but I would really like to hear firsthand from the parents…
I would like to find out more specifically on the following:
1) Does your child enjoy going to school generally? I.e. do they find learning in this school joyous? Are the subjects taught creatively?
2) Teaching staff - Are the current teachers generally caring, dedicated and passionate about teaching, even helping the weakest students? Do they "connect" with their students? Or are they just going through the mill, then expecting the parents to engage tutors to make up the shortfall?
Do you feel the principal’s direction for the school is going right?
3) Is the emphasis on moral/character/well rounded education strong? Is your child blossoming?
4) Stress level - how is the homework level like? Do the children spend a lot of time on homework daily? How about holidays? Is the homework more creative type or mundane worksheets type?
5) Parents network - Is there a strong parent-teacher-school network here? Are many parents participating? Are they also given some leeway to offer suggestions to improve stuff or design some holiday programs etc?
6) Are there immersion, outdoor programs, or any extraordinary programs outside of the generic curriculum?
7) What is a weak area of the school that you strongly feel can be improved?
Please feel free to PM me if you are not comfortable publishing your heartfelt or sensitive comments over the public domain. I’m looking for honest answers. Thanks!
Very much appreciate your help in assisting a fellow parent in making a school choice!
