Dun think SST is for poly. As engineer myself, I fully support applied science. In fact I feel the issue of our normal science syllabus is lacking the connection to every day life. We learn but dunno why we learn. For exams score is the only reason bah. Applied science is more holistic.

      My 2 cents.

      For SST.

My daughter’s languages are not strong. Hovering between 3 and 4, even got 5 before. Very unstable and hence my wife and I are quite worried actually. Any unforeseen thing and may drop to 5 or below. Scary sia… that’s the bad thing about AL. Originally we also thought that this new system is good for her as she does not need to squeeze the last mark. But turns out can be double edged.
Anyway back to SST, the irony is that from what I learned, sec 1 focus not much on Chinese… we are also worried that with her such standard and lack of interest, how can she eventually handle O level Chinese… guess my wife got to continue to "drill" her with Chinese every weekend as what she has been doing in past 2 years. (My daughter refused to go tuition. Between tuition and mum, she chose the latter. But still let mum angry with non cooperation and vomit a lot of blood with her forever-cannot-remember Chinese characters)
My daughter very "geng" one. Already eyeing on the SST-Ngee Ann Integrated Diploma. She said dun need O level! Hahaa…

      Hi,

For SST CO, my daughter is very normal compared to others. Other than her math and science hovering between AL1 and AL2, she does not join any Olympiads and whatnot.
If you ask me, it was the 2nd round of e-problem solving and interview that made her stood out. Everyone in the small grp presented own solution and then together they got to come up with 1 final solution. She took the lead when she saw no one else wanna talk. Dun even need to be correct solution. Just be confident. Show your enthusiasm.

So in my opinion, dun worry too much about building up portfolio. A child who is very interested in STEM will be able to display this passion naturally. We are surrounded everyday by science and maths afterall. I think the assessors wanna see this interest and passion.
      My two cents.

I heard from a friend about this. Any parents can comment?

Personally I’m quite shocked to hear this. If memorise cheng2 yu3 or vocabulary, it’s ok. But to memorise essays, that’s stiffling creativity development in the child. What will come out of this kind of education is a child who is superb in memorising, but lack creativity.
any one knows if shu qun does this?
