My DS3 was posted to Navy 2 months ago after his BMT. He was informed that they had shortlisted him for OCS and would be going for interviews. He is very keen to go as it's very rare for NSF to be posted to Navy and now to be chosen for OCS.

I understand he would be in OCS Navy Wings and go through slightly different training. I don't really wish to see him go through such tough training but he feels that I should be proud that he can be an officer. He was sick throughout his BMT and only fully recovered from flu after passing out.

Another problem is that I have given away all his army fatigues as he has been issued Navy uniforms. Will he need them for OCS?

OCS will issue their own PT and admin kit to the officer cadets for their Common Leadership module but they will have to keep their No. 4 uniform. When they move on to their service and pro term, they will use their Navy stuff. So you don't have to worry.

I think not necessary for now.


not many questions are set from textbooks, and when that happens, can always ask your ds friends to whatsapp the questions to him. When my ds was in year 1, didnt happen more than 4 or 5 times during the year.[/quote]

No, you need not take the Math & Science books to school unless the teacher gives instructions to bring them, which is unlikely.

Science, Geog n History notes will be given online. Likewise with additional practice papers. Check your EMB or student portal daily....very important. Most main practice papers will be printed and distributed.

My DS is in Sec 3 now and from what I have gathered, the textbooks are hardly touched except Chinese and Lit. Quite a waste of money buying those textbooks.

Let's try; one possible method is the PIYO (Put In Your Own) Method:

(Put in your own distance)


12 x 15 = 180

Let the distance (track) be 180 m.


Ken took 12 minutes to run round the track once.
Ken's speed is 180 m / 12 min = 15 m/min.

Barry took 15 minutes to run round the track once.
Barry's speed is 180 m / 15 min = 12 m/min.


Let's consider Barry to be (180 m) / 2 = 90 m ahead of Ken.

Ken's speed is (15 - 12 3 m/min faster than Barry's speed.

Ken will \"catch up\" on Barry at a rate of 3 m every minute.

Ken will take (90 m) / (3 m/min) = 30 min to catch up with Barry.

Answer: 30 min

Reading the words in blue and the many positive attitudes that parents here are adopting, I feel so bad that I'm still the monster mummy to my dd. Much as I remind myself to always use positive words and refrain from nagging, I almost always fail to do so when my dd gives me the bo chup attitude. Then after that, I feel so bad. I seriously need to learn to hold my tongue.

That described me exactly..I'm also constantly reminding myself to use more positive words...but then..... :roll:

ds2 into his 3rd day of CA1. Math paper was "very difficult", according to him. The class was in low morale after the paper. Told him before the paper that CA paper will be manageable since MOE’s directive is not to set difficult paper…I was wrong.

ds’s school only the P6 have CA this year, all other level’s CA were scrapped.
