    • RE: Medisave Required Amount increase 20%

      3Boys:

If you reach age 65, the age most people will retire, you can expect to live for about another 20 years --> http://www.singstat.gov.sg/stats/keyind.html

It is a known fact that your medical expenses are at it's greatest (in fact, the majority of your lifetime medical costs will accrue) in your last 10 years of life.

Who should pick up the bill? Of course, we can go the way of many welfare nations and say the 'g'ment' (i.e. younger taxpayers) pay for it, basically imposing a burden on the future generations, including your children.

Much better we bite the bullet and save up for our own bills, I say.

      You are so right....

that is devastatingly cruel - no apology is ever enough but \"regrets the inconvenience\" is weak. can't even say \"apologise\"? unless for protection from legal liability can never use the word \"apologise\"

Yes, totally agreed with you... that is devastatingly cruel!!

Can I bet a thousand bucks that we'll still be here tomorrow? So if it's not true (world not ending), you guys give me the money. If it's true, eh ... why would you need the money anyway? 😆

Ok. Onz. I'll bet you 2 thousand bucks that I'll pay you a thousand bucks tomorrow.

      Hi,

Try eBay. I did a search on \"Peter Rabbit Plush\" and was pleasantly greeted by 7000+ of them, all shapes and sizes. 🙂 Enjoy your shopping.

    • RE: Child care & Kindergartens in Central

      Hi, fellow parents.

I would like to seek feedback on Etonhouse Preschool.

My biggest worry is that my 3yo-to-be adoptive daughter is an African-Hispanic, should I be concerned of her "color" being a subject of discrimination in this preschool that I enrolled her? (I hate to discuss this, but I do know that in S’pore things work differently…)

Would really appreciate if any parents here could shed some lights on "races" matter being handled in this preschool.

Welcome any recommendation on other preschools in district 9/10.

      TIA.

Two former Cabinet ministers, two office-holders and two senior lawyers were among the names suggested to be the next Speaker of Parliament by political observers yesterday, a day after Mr Michael Palmer's shock resignation.

You drew such conclusion base on your HK friend's description about the HK MTR?

It's never your personal experience as a regular HK MTR commuter?

what abt the minibus system? frequent goes anywhere from what people rave abt? is the minibus sysmtem something we should follow here?

Mini buses in HK are convenient but not very reliable, as they operate without a fixed time table, poor punctuality at times. They charge equvalent or slightly higher fare compares to 九巴.... It's not door to door service, commuters do have to walk to the minibus bus stop.

SG have similar minibus service too, smaller scale, the \"luxury\" van bus (seat-in-coach) is available in the town area I think...

My heart goes to you that you have to walk 20mins to the nearest NEL... guess 20mins is truly too much to endure and owning a private vehicle would be a better solution when comes to convenience and comfort.

      Twinkies

You already have a pre-conceived idea that SG has the best transport system, and I have already said that is fine, I respect that. You provided fresh perspective of the HK transport system which I was never aware of, and I appreciate your contribution. That is what a forum is abt, exchange of different ideas, and we should all respect different ideas.
But your last sentence is a great insult to me. I think it is totally uncalled for. I was just illustrating how the policymakers and the bus/MRT operator force commuters to take the MRT by removing bus services that they always had, without consideration on the convenience of the people. We had direct buses before, and now we have to walk 20 min to the nearest MRT- and that is perfectly fine and we should not complain? How abt the elderly and the young? The option of private cars is never in the discussion in SG public transport system because that is for the minority elites - paying $130K for a basic car?? How can the man on the street afford that?
Do you realise that it is precisely that we all love SG that's why we are exchanging ideas and hopefully come up with some constructive suggestions? The SG transport system overall - cars, buses, MRT, taxis currently is not sustainable from the trend that it is heading. We are a very small country and yet it takes a very long time to travel from one place to another - this will have serious economic impact. We are all here to try to discuss, in the hope that we can find some solution. There is nothing personal here.
I shall not waste my time on replying you anymore.

however you interpret my words is out of my control, you are entitle to it...

Just like you preconceivedly thinking HK MTR is better than SG MRT, but fellow forummers are discerning enough to choose a reliable version to believe, if not debating it publicly with you here.

( Sigh, a 20 mins walk daily to train station is already a plight... that much of a love for the country as proclaimed. It's gonna be a tough world ahead for Singaporean.)
