May I know the standard of the Chinese Orchestra in CCHM? Is it demanding? How about their standard?

      TIA.

My 2nd DD has received CO by CCHM (her 2nd choice) under CO domain. Her 1st choice of school is DHS but was unsuccessful. She is strong in her languages especially MT and HCL. She has great love for Chinese culture & CO. Hence, she has no issue to adapt into CCHM & DHS rich in Chinese culture. In fact, she can try to use her PSLE score for DHS but we are not sure should we secure the CO of CCHM or take the risk for DHS. She too is undecided. However, my 2nd DD is very sure she wants to do A level, SAP school & CO.
May I know what is the performance of CCHM in O level and the % of students enter in NYJC. I am clueless.

Appreciate your value advise. Thank you in advance.

Thank you Phtthp for your congrats! It is so tough to manage 2 different expectation and recognizing their strength in this process, going through their choices and discussing with them.

We do not think is the results that my 2nd DD did not get WL or CO. Her P6 Prelim AL8(M). Tscore should be 252+. In fact her results is much better than her sister. She has always consistently getting AL1 for MT and either a Distinction or high Merit for HCL. We suspected she was too honest in 1 of her reply during the audition that stripped her off as we got feedback after the audition that she is too honest though they are keen to take her because of her skill set. I do not wish to elaborate further.
CCHM is indeed a good school, the VP praised and thanked her honesty during her audition and they probably value her honesty and her skill which the school’s value is superb!
I would like to know what is the % of the CCHM manage to enter into NYJC. The struggle we have is whether should we just take it up or try using her score for DHS which she is capable of.
Thanks for the information in regards to CL & HCL.

On the other hand, I also need advise regarding my 1st DD. The struggle is track over school or school over track. Appreciate any of the advise in regards to SOTA-IB, O level & IP.

      Thank you!

      wow !
Your 2nd daughter's Psle Prelim AL 8 (Merit), is very good !

If your 2nd girl's mind, soul and heart are determined, firmly set to study IP, then stick to the IP track. You don't need to decide now, because exercising DSA CO option takes place only after her PSLE is over.

      After PSLE over is over,
your 2nd dd herself will know how she has fared overall, in all 4 subjects.

      2 scenario

      1)

if she is confident that she had performed well at PSLE, then reject & turn down CCHM CO, try to enter Dunman High, via AL score.

The only un-settling / un-nerving potential obstacle is computer balloting, should her AL score coincide with Dunman High's Cut-off-point. Otherwise, if she perform better than DHS COP, she will be admitted into Dunman High (IP).

Inside your listing ranking of 6 choices Secondary , you can put

      a) Dunman High : 1st choice

      b) Chung Cheng High : 2nd choice

      What happen, next ?

      Say,
in the event your 2nd dd participate in Dunman High computer balloting, assuming that her AL score matches DHS COP exactly on the dot & unluckily get balloted out, then Chung Cheng High school will catch her back safely,

      because

COP (Dunman High IP) is lower ( better ) than COP (Chung Cheng High) .

She can still enter CCHM & join back CCHM Cca \"Chinese Orchestra\" during next new academic year 2022 Cca Audition period opened to all the Sec 1s, ie. join back the same domain Cca, that has previously offered her a CO.

      2)

if 2nd daughter gut feel is that she has fumbled in Psle,

      then

accept Chung Cheng High CO (Chinese Orchestra). Do well in O-level and after finished O-level, can still join back Dunman High (A-level) 4 years later, if she is still keen by then.

COP : Cut-off-point[/quote]#2- Thank you for the breakdown of analysis. She just missed by 4marks to get D for HCL Prelim & she was so upset as she usually score D HCL. The ultimate decision is still herself if she wants to risk it. Anyway thank you so much for your valuable advise.

      Thank you!

For #2, my general belief is only apply DSA if willing to accept so I would take CCHM but everyone is free to do as they choose. That being said, if you want to reject CCHM and try for DHS under PSLE/S1 posting it seems like a reasonable bet because even if she doesn't make it I'd think there's a very good chance can still qualify for CCHM (although not guaranteed). As a check, take the worst score for each subject over P5 SA2-P6 SA1-Prelim and see if still qualify CCHM? If so, should be pretty safe.

For #1, there is some discussion on SOTA and IB a few pages back. Unfortunately, I think the decision here is a very individual one for those in the situation. I would not go DHS if don't like Chinese, although many probably still manage.

      Good luck and congrats.

#1 - We are also not too keen for her to try DHS. We know she will be much happier in a non SAP school. Ultimately, we will sit down with her to discuss her next 4yrs and beyond.
Thank you SG-KP1 & Phtthp 😄 It is much clearer to me now.

:congrats: on your twins' DSA outcome.

What is your 2nd daughter's Tscore, based on her

      a) P5 SA2 exam,

      b) P6 (mid year + Prelim) results?

You can easily convert it back to Tscore, by
adding up Total of her 4 subjects, and multiply it by say, 0.74

If her Tscore is around, say

( 22x or 23x or low end of 24x), perhaps is better that your 2nd daughter take up O-level, instead of IP curriculum, because O-level will benefit this group of students, more.

Do you know why Dunman High did not offer your daughter any CO nor WL ?

It could be partly attributed to her interview performance. Maybe certain questions she did not answer to the satisfaction of the interviewers

      or

it could also be that her academic score is not close enough to a certain minimum score expected by Dunman High panel of interviewers, for IP. Yes, no doubt your 2nd daughter have talent in Chinese Orchestra, however, DHS do evaluate academic results too.

Anyway, Chung Cheng High (Main) is a good school, also affliated to Nanyang Junior College. Go for it, since she has already been offered CO. Dont think it is easy to receive a CO from CCHM. Warmest Congratulations !

I think someone has posted recent GCE O level results in detail, inside either CCHM or CCH (Yishun) ksp school thread, they did very well !

After your 2nd girl complete (finish) her GCE O-level at CCHM, she can either proceed forward to a Polytechnic or to Dunman High (for A-level) , if she is still keen in DHS, 4 years later. Or continue with her affliated Nanyang Junior College.

Is not that just because she did not receive a DSA offer now from DHS at P6, therefore she loses all future connection to DHS. She still can, 4 years later.

      ===========================

Some info, about this school, Chung Cheng High (Main).

Your 2nd daughter need to be strong in her Secondary school Higher Chinese. Make sure that during her lower Secondary (1 and 2), build her foundation in HCL, well.

      Because

In CCHM, at the end of 2024 Sec3, your 2nd daughter will take bu-hua (O-level).

CCHM School policy is such that if her O-level (bu-hua) results is not of a certain ideal targeted grade expected by the school, then when she reach 2025 Sec 4 level, she may not be able to take O-level (gao-hua).

What's the impact (implication), then ?

If a pupil cannot take O-level (gao-hua), means she cannot enjoy 2 points discounted privilege via L1R5, into a Junior College. But if pupil heading for a Polytechnic instead of JC, then no issue.

      If not wrong,
another SAP school : Anglican High,

also behave the same way as CCHM in that, they are very particular & strict about their students' O-level (bu-hua) results at their end of Sec 3, before allowing them to take O-level (gao-hua) in Sec 4.

bu-hua : Standard Chinese (in Sec schools)

gao-hua : Higher Chinese (in Sec schools)

Thank you Phtthp for your congrats! It is so tough to manage 2 different expectation and recognizing their strength in this process, going through their choices and discussing with them.

    • RE: DSA 2021

      Dear Parents,

Sorry for the lengthy msg. I have double the stress & joy. Appreciate your advice in aiding us to make our decision.

My 1st DD has received CO by Crescent Girls & SOTA and WL from DHS under dance domain. We are not familiar with SOTA program. Initially my DD 1st choice is CGS however, after the audition by SOTA she was intrigued by the interesting style of learning. On the other hand, DHS is also 1 of her consideration because it is an IP. Now she is torn by the choices.

      1. DHS - walking distance from our home. She is doing alright in current school MTL and taking HCL (between passed & merit). She is under BICEP program so not an issue on SAP school but she may find challenge in coping with the HCL as secondary HCL is much tougher than primary plus she is not so keen in Chinese.
      2. CGS - about an hour of journey by public transport. She likes the school’s emphasis on computing and is a girls’ school which she likes. she has also visited the school and like the peaceful quiet environment. If she takes up, she hopes to do well in Sec 4 and given a chance to explore more option - JC or Poly. May I know the performance of CGS?
      3. SOTA - because is an IB and the curriculum sound interesting. Distance is not an issue. Is it very demanding and where can she advance after 6yrs? I heard that if they cannot meet the result to advance Yr5, they will be given a certificate to apply poly or some art institution after Yr4. Correct if i am wrong.

My 2nd DD has received CO by CCHM (her 2nd choice) under CO domain. Her 1st choice of school is DHS but was unsuccessful. She is strong in her languages especially MT and HCL. DHS & CCH (Main). My gf told me TKGS informed her, today will release results (music domain). Not sure is it just for music or for all.

    • RE: 2015 P1 Registration Exercise for 2016 In-Take

      Hi parents,

      Advise needed.
I am staying in Geylang & is within 1km of KHPS & currently doing PV. I reckon DD should fall under P2B for registration.
Should we failed to get in in P2B, should I still try for P2C as KHPS is the only 1km school from my place?

What if we are so unlucky even P2C also balloted out. Then what other schools that are nearby eg TKPS, HGPS (understand they are temp in Bedok), GMPS or any other girls school that I can consider as backup plan?

Actually DD likes girls school & we prefer too but all girls schools are all >2km.

      TIA for any valuable advise.
